IBQLTN2
Just wanted to let anyone who likes mystery quilts know that Bonnie Hunter has just put out the word she is starting a new Mystery this year. November 18th is the first clue and here is a link to her intro for it! I am so excited, I actually may have time this year to do it. http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2011/11/intro-to-mystery-2011-orca-bay.html
Boni
Thanks Jeanne, I love mystery quilts. I've done several of Debbie Caffrey's when our LQSes were doing them. No one does them anymore around here.
JustSewSimple
I love them but aren't Bonnie Hunter's very labor intensive?
IBQLTN2
yes, they are pretty labor intensive, but I dont mind that it uses up lots of scraps or you can go with just the four fabrics.
Quilting Heidi
I like Mystery's after the secret is revealed!:P:P:P I get too stressed out not knowing what the quilt is going to look like.
Sparkle
I'm with you Sylvia. I did Bonnie's Orange Crush Mystery (loved it)---but I have noticed with each mystery after Orange Crush she has more pieces of fabric involved. Some of them quite small. I've gone back to doing some of her more Basic scrappy quilt patterns on her website which I enjoy doing more. I will follow along just to see the progress on "Orca". But, no sewing. LauraJ
I'm working on my second one by Lyn Mann, who lives in So Cal. The first one of hers I did was super fun - have yet to quilt it. Lots of piecing but nothing out of the ordinary re: cutting/stitching, etc. http://www.quiltsbylyn.com/
Sparkle
Laura, Wow, she has some gorgeous quilt patterns! I couldn't find anything regarding a "mystery quilt" though---
JustSewSimple
Can you imagine piecing "Plaid Madness?" I'd just slit my wrist and be done with it!
Lynne in Iowa
Is it just my computer, or has anyone else noticed it always takes Bonnie's site forever to load. Sometimes all I get is pictures no words. Love her blog and scrappy patterns, but it is sure hard to get to.
IBQLTN2
I didn't have any trouble loading the website. maybe it is all the pictures depends what kind of service you have too I guess.
witha'K'quilting
they are labor intensive...but so worth it. i almost have my roll roll cotton boll quilt done from last year. the final border should be on before this orca bay mystery gets underway. so yes, i am joining in the fun! already picked my fabrics too. witha'K'quilting
no...I am embarrassed to say. i have the fabric...but haven't even looked at it. so...I figure i am safe with that one. bonnie's though is a different story. pictures of it will be popping up everywhere if i don't jump on board now...and then i may not do it! Guest Linda S
I've done one mystery quilt in my life. I ended up not liking the pattern. Bummer. So, I've not done one since. I'm pretty fussy about my quilts. Knowing, however, that it's Bonnie Hunter, I might be tempted. I love a lot of her patterns.
Janette
I'm the same, I like to know what I am making up front. Having said that I do like most of Bonnies quilts.
victoriasews
The first few I did, I cheated because I worked at the quilt shop and could take a peek so I'd know about fabric choices. That said, I recently did one with Judy Laquidara with our guild and I absolutely loved it and couldn't wait for the next step. I've even made another quilt off the same pattern. IBQLTN2
I have done a few of Bonnies patterns and even though they are labor intensive ( Remember No Whining Allowed) they are fun and I love the outcome. I really dont care about not knowing what the quilt will look like as I have done many other mysteries and there was only one that I wasnt crazy about, all the rest have been great and a few have even won ribbons. My other thought about this is that I am using up a whole bunch of scraps that would otherwise probably sit around for years doing nothing, so even if it just becomes a utility quilt for the beach or car or even a donation it is fabric being utilized for something useful!! Bekah
As I hope to retire in January I may start this one too. Also AQS is having a mystery too.
SandraC
I've been up in the air on whether or not to start this one. I have done all of Bonnie's mysteries except one....and then I felt left out and regretted it! I really don't have the time right now, but......hmmmmm......... Guest Linda S
Judy Laquidara makes great patterns too. I imagine a mystery quilt with her would be terrific.
lindasewsit
Ok.... I'm the dummie here.... I'm not sure what a mystery quilt is or how it works. Can anyone help me? what is the site for this quilt? Does it cost $? thanks for helping me understand!
witha'K'quilting
Linda, no cost for bonnie's mysteries. A mystery quilt works like this...you get fabric requirements and sometimes cutting directions ahead of the "clues". In this case, each week bonnie will give clues as to what fabrics to cut/sew. She will basically divide her pattern into 7 or 8 clues, so that as you are sewing, you do not know what the final quilt top will look like. make sense? Her mysteries utilize lots of scraps and make large quilts. Look up quiltville.blogspot.com and search for orca bay mystery. You can get the introduction there. Please join in...it will be loads of fun.
