kendralu
hello, does anyone have any wisdom on how to replace the plastic that covers the pantograph? ours is over 20 years old and is very yellowed and broken in the middle, so we want to replace it, but it seems to be attached to the underside of the white board, which is very sturdily attached (some kind of double stick tape?) to the rail and the tubes. do we have to take the whole board off to put a new pantograph plastic sheet on?? help! ~kendralu
witha'K'quilting
My plastic is just attached with clear packing tape. Why couldn't you cut the edge of the plastic with an exacto knife where the tape adheres to it? Then replace new plastic and retape.
LadyLake
I would cut it off, as Kristina suggested, and replace it with The PatternGrid available from: www.coloradoquiltingcompany.com and other longarm suppliers.

kendralu
that was my initial reaction too, the only (possible) problem with doing that, is that to retape without taking off the board, you'd have to tape it to the rail right? wouldn't that cause problems with the wheels running smoothly? witha'K'quilting
i don't think you need to have the plastic run all the way to the back edge of the table. keep it shy a couple of inches and that should give you plenty of room for the tape to still be on top of the table? quietlifeaz
I have old panto platic and a grid on my machine (I know...geek). The grid is 1.5" narrower than the plastic so there would be no issue with having room to tape it down.

Kueser
I put my grid on with sticky velcro tape. Yep, a little expensive but I can pull it off when I get that rare urge to deep clean my table.

Grammie
There is a heavy duty Clear plastic at retail like Hancocks that I had for my older machine Ult I before selling it. It is used as heavy duty table cloth and clear. I purchased it from BOLT and used double sided tape to lay it down after cutting it to the correct size. It is cheap to replace when necessary and I liked that it had the flexibility to it and weight. Worked great and had enough weight that it always stayed in place FLAT and nice. Because it is cheap you can write on it using wet erase or dry erase and over time easy to replace with new one. I've never like working at the back of the machine too much.
