ginnylane
I am new at doing anything but pantos and easy e2e, I want to do piano keys on a quilt but don't know how. Can you give me some advice. Thanks Ginny
LadyLake
Hi Ginny, Usually piano keys are space 1-1/2 to 2" apart, depending upon the scale of your other quilting designs and what looks 'right' to you. I find it easiest to mark the measurements and then use my channel lock to stitch the line; you have to stitch-in-the-ditch along the inner border between lines. If you don't have a channel lock or want an alternative method, you can use a longarm ruler to measure and stitch the lines. To give it added interest, you can do 'beadboard', where you stitch two lines a quarter of an inch apart, rather than one line, and alternate between a smaller distance and a longer distance between lines. Hope that helps!

CrazyAboutQuilting
Hi Ginny, I don't have channel locks but what I have found that works great for doing piano keys is that I pounce my border using the spacing that I want with one of Pam Clark's stencils. Then it is really easy to stitch using one of my long arm rulers. I don't have to keep measuring as I go, my line is already there. I can whip through a border in no time.
