One jelly roll as long as it has 40 strips in it. The strips are the 40-45" width of the fabric ( 2.5" x 40") You sew each strip together using a diagonal seam like you were making a really, really long binding!!! It will be approx. 2.5" x 1600". Cut off about 18-20" from one end. Now making sure you haven't twisted the LONG piece bring right sides together and make it 2 strips wide. Whe you get to the end, snip the strip in half (just accross the 2.5") Now you have 4.5" by approx. 800". Now do it again. Bring the two ends right sides together, careful not to twist it. Sew down one side, now have 8.5" x approx 400". Do it 3 more times. Now you can add borders if you want!!! Very easy!!! I took my strips off the pile in the jelly roll as they came. That way I didn't have to think about what strip to use next!!! Have fun!!!!
