quiltmonkey
********* Copied and pasted from Spaceweather.com web site: A coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetic field on Jan. 22nd. At first the impact did not appear to be a strong one: the solar wind speed barely lifted itself to ~400 km/s when the CME passed by. Now, however, in the wake of the CME, a dense and increasingly geoeffective solar wind stream is blowing around Earth, setting the stage for possible auroras on the night of Jan. 22nd. ********* Note from me: These lights were dancing above my head as I slept last night. Fortunately my friend Susan Stevenson (a photographer) is a night owl and an aurora stalker, and she captured these in her lens. Thought I'd share!! PS: The pale orange glow in this photo is from the city lights of Fairbanks
quiltmonkey
Rather than at an angle, this photo is taken straight UP directly into the sky looking up through the beams.

Tamarack
Amazing photos!! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check the sky tonight to see if we get an increase activity in our northern lights. We have not had anything spectacular lately.
