mrmquilt
Hi everyone, I recently purchased a used Ultimate II. I know I need to check out the timing just because that is the way I am. The needles that came with the machine are a different size than those in the machine. So I know I need to do some adjusting. I like to know everything there is to know when it comes to my machine. LOL The problem is I can't get the screws out of the plate or the screw out of the Hook retaining finger. Any suggestions?? My husband even tried and couldn't get them to budge. Thanks Michele
mrmquilt
Well it has taken me a long time to get those buggers out but we did it. But they will definitely need to be replaced. Yikes, nothing should be that hard. Now I'm off to figure out how to mount the laser light to the front of my machine. Or just play. John Mitchell
Here is the method that I normally use and it works most of the time. Select a screwdriver that fits the screw properly. While holding the screwdriver in the screw, tap the end of the screwdriver with a hammer (It may take a sharp tap). This will normally loosen the threads and allow you to remove the screw. If the screw is damaged, Sears makes a set of damaged screw removal tools that should do the trick. John
John Mitchell
On mounting the laser light on the front of your machine. I have modified a ULT I by putting a post on the front just like the current production machines. I cut the head off a 5/16 machine screw and drilled and tapped the head to accept the post. You can not tell it fromn the currient production. You can buy a extension phone cable from Radio Shack to extend your cable. John
ramona-quilter
Hi John, Would you have a photo of that Ultimate I with front laser setup? I have been trying to make it work but no go. My DH is very handy but a bit worried about drilling into the top of the machine head. I think he wants to be sure he would be drilling in the correct spot. John Mitchell
I just looked at one of our machines and found out exactly where it is postioned then drilled and tapped a hole in the same positon. If you can look at a Freedom or Millie you can find the correct place. I could look and make some measurements for you if needed. It looks just like current production machines. mrmquilt
Hi Ramona, Two of my favorite things are super glue and duck tape. I ended up using super glue to attach a rod horizontally, I made sure it wouldn't be in the way of any screws if I needed to take my machine apart. Stuck my lazer light on it and it worked great. It was really fun seeing the pattern and was pretty easy. Of course I still need to practice it but I can tell I will love it. It may not be the prettiest or most professional way to do it but it seems to work just fine. Michele
