How to line up Swirls

My Swirlz templates are older and don't have the 1/2 swirl. Ardell has the right idea, just line up so that the quilt edge is part way into the starting row of swirls. Your ending row will most likely have partial swirls, plus you have partial swirls both left and right, so It will look perfectly normal.

As you stand at the back of the machine you should have the hole on the template that is used for advancing positioned away from you. Stated differently, it is above the swirls you do on the second pass. Make sense?

I used to have the older swirls template without the 1/2 pattern. I did mine just the opposite from Carmen. I would put the hole close to me at the back and would put the stylus in the hole and then go around to the front and advance the quilt until the stitching line of the row I just did met the needle. I thought that hole was to represent the "previous stitched" line. It always lined up great for me this way.
