Linda Duncan
What needle size is appropriate for Superior's MonoPoly thread? Their website recommends 3.0. Has anyone used 4.0 with success? I really don't want to make any timing changes just to run this thread with a 3.0 needle. Any advice would be appreciated!
ffq-lar
Hi Linda. I run it very successfully with a 4.0. I run it at 10 stitches per inch. Loosen the top tension until, when the thread is pulled through the eye of the needle and released, there is little or no kinking or curling of the released thread. The disks are so loose you can see daylight between them! Then loosen up the bobbin tension as well (15 or 150 on the Towa gauge does it for me.) Do a stitch test off the quilt until you are happy with the stitches
lisae
Linda, I have always used a 4.0 with no issues. I even use Madiera Monolon which is super fine monofilament with a 4.0 needle. Try it first and see how it works for your machine with a 4.0 needle. One tip, REALLY loosen your top tension, and only go through one of the holes on the three hole guide. Hope this helps!
