lindasewsit
Can I use QD wool for a wall hanging? It measures 52''x 52''. thanks!
Quilting Heidi
Wool is beautiful but make sure you put a light weight batting under it for a wall hanging. Wool can sag over time. I tease apart the wool into a thin layer and lay it over something like Dream poly or Hobbs and it makes a beautiful wall hanging.
MarieBrewer
Linda, have you tried Warm and Natural's poly? It's thin but has loft and is very stable. Borders on stiff. Wouldn't use it on a baby quilt because it doesn't drape well.
lindasewsit
Thanks, Heidi! Do you NEED to take it apart? Or can it be left whole?
lindasewsit
What I have here, is the wool and I have QD blend and puff. I don't want to use puff on this quilt. should I see if the little quilt shop here has something besides blend to put under it? Or they might have that W&N poly
lindasewsit
This is a VERY special quilt to my customer! She spent 2 years making it... So I want this to be PERFECT! I want all the quilts I do to be perfect, but I think you know what I mean...
Quilting Heidi
I just like to keep it thinner for a wall hanging but it needs the stiffness of a 2nd batting so I always tease apart the wool but it isn't necessary.
lindasewsit
Thanks, Heidi! Is the blend ok to use under it?

lindasewsit
Hi Heidi! Welll..... I tried!! The one piece of it I did salvage to use on this quilt. but the other is....well..... looks like a raggedy ghostie!!! I had to kind of "piece" the one I'm using... It seems pretty flat, so , I'm going for it!! I'll learn!!
Quilting Heidi
LOL yes Linda and unfortunately it sounds like you learned the hard way. I usually start at a corner and go very slowly. Sometimes one piece is a little thicker than the other side but I can usually get them apart with no holes. I usually get my batting off a roll and I wonder if the folds cause issues. You can use the other side as stuffing!
