Tracey
Hi there, I tried to search and I remember a topic about using a guide from a fishing rod to use on the machines. I remember thinking it was a great idea but now I can't find the thread. Does anyone remember this conversation? Thanks, Tracey
Quilting Heidi
I have the guides but don't recall the thread. They are ceramic guides and I used loctite (I think that is the right name) to attach them to the head.
Guest Linda S
Yep - you can buy them at Cabela's - you want the ones with the ceramic on the inside so the thread can't wear a groove in them. Let me go see if I can find the link for you. I have three of them on my machine. These are the ones I bought - size 6 or 7 will work fine. http://tinyurl.com/8v5tk8x
JudithWashburnQuiltStudo
Linda, Can yoiu put pictures of the on your machine and explain what these are used for?
Guest Linda S
You use them as thread guides so that you don't have to keep buying new pigtail guides. You can't wear a groove in these babies. I think I have a picture of my machine with two on - I added another.
Anniespoon
Linda, Heidi said she used Loctite. How did you attach yours? Are they hard to thread?

MastiffMomQlt
Well, this is awesome! It seems like I go through those little pig tails faster than I can believe. I did start to turn them upside down to wear a groove in the other side before putting new ones on but these ceramic guides are going on my list. Thanks for sharing your brilliance & resourcefulness, Ladies!
Guest Linda S
I soldered my fishing line guides to some washers, so I could just put the screw through them and attach them to the machine. As far as threading, there's no problem, as when I change threads, I do it at the back of the machine. I break the previous thread, tie the next one to it, and then go to the front of the machine and just pull the thread through. All threaded with very little effort! Oh - BTW - I've had those guides on my machine for about six years and have not had to replace them -- they rock!

Tracey
Got my fishing guides yesterday. Will get them on soon. Mine look a little different but are graphite coated. The guy said they don't do ceramic anymore they do graphite so that's what I got. Talk about a fish out of water!!! There I am wandering around a hunting/fishing store. LOL Out of place much/;)

s.waits
I got some at the local Gander Mountain, although I'm not sure if they are ceramic. Glued them on to the side of the machine with craft glue, the one with something or other "6000" in the name. Sorry, I have a lousy memory for names of any sort. RunningThreads
Dave I think the idea was too replace the factory style pigtails with the ceramic fishing rod eyes. Apparently the ceramic won't get the groove worn into them. Some others suggest adding more guides (I wouldn't) to control the flopping around of the thread, Remember every time the thread touches a guide you have added friction and that has increased the tension and will cause you grief if you use delicate threads. Neher-in-law5
When I put my fishing guides on George I didn't remove or change the pigtail guides. I have a couple in the thread path between the spool holder at the back and one on each side of the take up arm action. I don't think they have caused a tension issue as much as they have helped to control the thread in where it can get caught with looping and flying around. Before the guides the thread from the spool holder down to the tension disk would get pretty saggy/baggy with big loose thread drops when the needle stopped. Quilting Heidi
I left the pigtails as well. I added 2 fishing guides one just after the tension spring no the way up to the take up lever and then one after it is threaded through the take up lever.
