donna sco
Was going to be efficient and put in a new needle (3.5) before I started on a customer's quilt. Apparently I must not have installed it properly and started to stitch. Did not hear any noise--top thread broke. Rethreaded and started again--thread broke. So I took out the bobbin and reinstalled the 3.5 needle and hand turned the needle down and it would not come back up unless I turned the wheel backwards. Does this mean the timing is off? I looked in the bobbin area and the eye of the needle is just below the top of the bobbin carrier. What else can I check?
RunningThreads
Is the needle in backwards? Most of us have done that. The side with the long groove faces you. Nigel
donna sco
Thank you. I had gotten the manual out and looked at the picture and still put it in backwards 3 times. Duh!!! It turns manually so guess it will run ok tomorrow. Again thanks for responding.
RunningThreads
As I said most of us been there. It took me 5 years before I did it. Nigel
Carol Hartman
Been there done that. I had to get out the book for the first year or so before I could get it right. At least it was an easy fix. Carol

Quilt Happy
When I put a new needle in I stick my thumb nail in the groove in front to sort of position it at 6 O'clock. Then I know it is not backwards!
Busy Quilting
I remember it by "Cleavage(groove) of the needle faces your own cleavage"
CWBowser
Those are great tricks to remember the right way to put the needle in. I have to get the manual out each time after I put the needle in backwards.
