A NEW Smell........

Okay naked quilters formally LA quilters who smoke; your gonna love this one!

Today I received a very beautiful quilt top in the mail. It smells strongly of ......... MAPLE SYRUP! I'm not kidding. Do you think piecing was done in the kitchen or she works at I-Hop on the side? My son has quite a sniffer. He could smell it before we got it out of the box! I like maple syrup; a little on the side for dipping pancakes or waffles. But not so much the aroma while quilting. Guess it could be worse! I'm hoping it will mellow before I get started on it. LOL!

Cheryl,

Maybe she's been reading the thread here. The maple smell might be a coverup for smoke odor! LOL!! ;) I think I'd have to let this one air out also. I'm not big on maple, I'm more a hickory or mesquite kinda girl! I'm really, really wondering how the smell got there....peicing it at the kitchen table?

Sherry,

Jimmy Dean Sausage....YUMM! That's what I use when I do cheese dip! Hot Jimmy Dean, Velveeta and hot chunky style Picante or Rotel! (geez, it's 5:am, why am I this hungry?)

I had a quilt last week that had a smell to it...I couldn't figure it out so I asked my daughter...right away she said, "it smells like baby, not the bad baby smell but the good one!". She was right but I don't know how the quilt came to smell that way! (She was an elderly quilter so I don't think she has a baby hanging around).

Otherwise, except for the occasional smokey quilt or old, musty quilts I havent' had any other odours.

I always eat my sausage, and my bacon, slathered in maple syrup. Yum! :)

Oh-oh-oh! getting a vibe here........ mm...mmmmmmmm..... (like the Coneheads, ya know, in the old days of SNL)......... Cheryl! What's printed on the outside of the box?!

See if that solves it, ok? I betcha...

(Sandra, that makes me pine for my babies' baby days...)

Maple syrup is not a bad smell. I got an antique quilt that just smelled dirty...I don't know how else to discribe it. I had to clean my machine well after that one. The hopping foot was filthy (we're talking black colored dirt...I am wondering if it was in an open box or a dirt cellar) and so was the hook assemble. I was glad that one was out of my house. I'll take maple syrup over dirt any day:)

Maybe the box was previously used for maple syrup. Sounds yummy to me, much better than cigar smoke.

Sherry, Have you tried the Jimmy Dean Maple sausage. The Jimmy Dean packing plant is about 25 miles from here. That's where my son's fair hog went when the fair was over.

Yeah, I'm letting it air out. It does make my stomach churn a little. But like we've said; it could be much worse.

I checked out the box. The only clue was "software" on part of the label.

Who knows. Very grateful it's not cat PEE!

Well, just out of curiosity, you could call the customer to ask her about it.

I received a quilt recently that smells so lovely that's what I had to do. It wasn't the smell of laundry soap or any kind perfume, just a lovely, sweet soft fragrance. Turns out her hubby is a heavy smoker, (outside only and never in the house, but you know how it can travel) so she keeps her fabric stash in closed boxes with a bar of lavendar soap. I don't especially care for lavendar but this is really a very pleasant quilt to work on. Lucky me.

Well I found out last night what a Jimmy dean sausage & maple syrup was. Soon as I mentioned it to my girlfriend Flo she went.... yumm yumm...and explained it to me, so when I come over for Houston I am going to try one, I only thought maple syrup was a desert topping. Flo is from New Orleans but has been here 19 years.

Is there anything else I need to taste test over there!!!love trying different things.
