Sheagatzi
I'm new. So I only have one ruler - a straight one. I'm getting adventurous and would like to add curves to the mix. I'm looking to buy circles and boomerangs. I got some advice that nesting circles may be a little difficult to hold/use, so get the actual circles, and not the nesting. (thanks, K!) What sizes would you recommend - do you truly need them all? Boomerangs - sizes? Just looking for what you use the most, or what you think would be a good 'starter' package to go with...so I don't break the bank right away. My plan is to buy a few items with each 'paycheck' I get. :-) (finally ordered my towa gauge!!! yes!!!)
srichardson
Andrea, I haven't used these circle rulers that are sold by Teryl Loy but the videos look interesting. http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/TerylLoyEnterprisesLetsQ/-strse-Templates-%26-Rulers/Categories.bok I have seen these curved rulers mention on the forum with good reports and again there are videos showing them in use. http://www.stonehousequilting.com/shop/category/quilter-s-groove-rulers/?showall=1&page_num=
Sheri Butler
Deloa's boomerangs are awsome! I do use those ALOT! http://deloasquiltshop.com/ Also Lisa Calle's curved rulers are awsome too! All of hers have become my favorites! http://www.stonehousequilting.com/shop/category/quilter-s-groove-rulers/ I am the ruler Queen. I think I own just about everyone out there..and I dont "dupe" up on rulers, ex: circles from 2 or 3 different makers. My circle rulers are just that. Circles, with no etched lines on them. (center markings..etc), however, hubby is in the process of getting them marked for me. yankiequilter
Andrea, you could check out the Circle Thingy from Circle Lord. It does not require the Circle Lord unit to use and will make 125 sizes of circles, from 1" to 12-1/2 inches, just about any size that you would need! I have the Circle Lord with the squircle and use it a lot, not only for circles but for arcs and some curved cross hatching. Attaching a picture of how I most recently used the squircle. You can do the same with the Circle Thingy.

Sheagatzi
Thanks for the replies so far... I'm pretty sure I know that I want to buy circles and some boomerang style rulers (I've got a website in mind already) but unsure of sizes. What sizes should I start out with? If I buy all of them, will I find that redundant?
LisaC
My first circles are the nested circles and I have had no problems holding them; the key is to go slow. Put a tiny bit of Elmer's Cement on the backside in strategic places and you are good to go. The cement rubs off if you need it to.
