Sondra M
I'm looking for a way to practice with my thread, fabric and batting before quilting on the actual quilt. I've heard something about using mailing tubes to fasten a practice sandwich to the rollers but can't quite put my head around how to actually do that. I've searched the forums but don't seem to be typing in the right search words. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!
barbm
Sondra, I use the cardboard tube that is in the center of a batting roll, but mailing tubes would work, as long as they're big enough to go around your rollers. Cut into usable lengths, then cut a wide slot along the length - you should be able to snap them around your roller, along with your sandwich. You can also use PVC pipe lengths in the same way. Have fun! Another thought - there are magnetic strips, sold at Harbor Freight, that work well, too, to hold a practice sandwich to a roller. GrandmaLKB
I use the cardboard tubes from batting all the time.......even for my quilts - not just the practice sandwich. I pin on the quilt back to the rollers, but float the top and batting. I used the tubes on the front to hold some tension to the top.
shirleyl
I have bought both the plastic clips cannot remember where from as well as the magnetic bars. I prefer the clips, only because I forgot to remove the magnet before rolling and it landed on my toe! Shirley
lmeimann
I think I got my plastic clips from Matt Sparrow--long enough ago that I can't quite remember.

Sondra M
Thank you for all your helpful tips. I am looking forward to giving it a try. I think I will start with the cardboard tubes because those are easily obtained. I can see myself forgetting to remove the magnetic strips too!
