Cardinal Quilt

Recommended Posts

My MIL has always had a special love for cardinals.  When I was on the Minnesota Shop Hop in August, I saw a gorgeous cardinal quilt hanging on the wall in one shop.  I kept going back to admire it and finally decided that I needed to buy the kit and make it for my MIL for Xmas.....and then I noticed that there was only 1 kit left so I grabbed it.  Anyway, it wasn't quite large enough for her double bed so I found some coordinating fabric and added an extra border.  I am so happy with how it turned out and my MIL loves it.  She had no idea that I was making this for her so that made it even more special.  She called me again today to thank me for it.  She said I don't need to give her any presents for years and years because this is the best present she has ever gotten and she loves it.  :)   And that's why we quilters do what we do, isn't it?  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Thank you all for your kind words.  I ran out of likes, but appreciate all of your comments.

It was one of those quilts that was just so enjoyable to work on, right from the start.  The pattern was written very clearly, everything went together like it was supposed to, and the quilt was talking to me about how to quilt it before I even got it done!   It took me 27 hours to quilt all of it, and it was so much fun to see it transform that I was kind of disappointed when I finished it!   I know, I'm kind of weird that way..............but you're all right, it is so much fun to do something like this when the person that you're doing it for really appreciates it!  I'm very lucky to have a special MIL, especially since I lost my own mom 9 years ago.
