I was a lurker for a couple of years before I bought my first machine. I avoided a lot of newbie mistakes because I had already read about the problems and solutions. We all speak the same language and have a common interest that bonds us! It's always fun when you're able to attend a large quilt show and actually meet up with others from the forum in person.
