JeannieB
I'm fixing to purchase my first five bolts of wide backing fabrics for customers. What five colors would you suggest I purchase (in addition to just plain off white muslin) ... the colors you see/use most often? Thanks! 8-)
mamu
Most of the colors I see are light blue, pale green and tan...just about any cream on cream or tan on tan
JustSewSimple
I use more golden yellow tone-on-tone and various blues.
Neher-in-law5
I usually try to have the backing coordinate with the main colors of the top so the binding goes with either side and the quilt then becomes reversible. The light colors are not usually my first choice, I go for the darker blues, purples, greens or batik natured.
lkl
I tend to buy backing that differs from that found at the LQS. I carry subtle tone on tone prints in several colours. Sage green is by far the most popular, then black/charcoal, beige to medium brown, golden brown, yellow, medium and navy blue. I also have wide printed flannel backing in sage green, cream, toffee, bright blue and lime green. If a customer prefers other colours or a lighter tone on tone print they can usually find one at the LQS. Leslie
BethDurand
I buy stuff that I want to use on my own quilts. I figure that most of my customers are going to be bringing me their backings, so I'd better love what I buy. That said, I've currently got white, khaki, black, light blue, buttercream yellow, red,, lavender and pink in stock.
Quilting Heidi
I'd probably say backers I see most from customers are white, cream, sage green, gold/brown tone, brick red.
LindaSteller
I very seldom use, or get from my customers, solid color backings. I'd buy tone on tones or ones with a nice but subtle design. I have a few in my collection (bolts) that are fairly popular with my clients. One is a sage green, another is cream with a light tan paisley design on it. They go well with a lot of quilt tops. BethDurand
I think Linda makes a good point. All of my backings are at least a marble if not some subtle print. Again, but before I buy it, it's got to be something I either want for my own current quilt project, or a future one.
