JeannieB
This bluebonnet quilt is going on a mission trip with Texas WMU to Barcelona Spain this summer. In the large bluebonnet block, we are adding a cowboy kneeling at the cross (Dave Hudson's block), then Texas with a star block in one of the four patches, a blue bonnet block in one of the other 4 patch blocks, a pair of cowboy boots and cowboy hat in the other blocks. The block seams are not pressed to one side ... the seams alternate back and forth and I can't stay in the ditch. Is it acceptable instead of doing a stitch in the ditch, can I just stitch 1/4" inside each block (QuiltPath will do this easily)? Or are there other options? Thanks for your help. lmeimann
I've done that on a few customer quilts. I have one lady who always presses her seams open so that is my only solution. I used to do that when hand quilting, so I think it gives it a bit of a vintage look.
qltnbe
Is the reason you don't SID when the seams are open is not to break the threads?
Zora
You can do a wavy line over the seam, then it won't matter where the seam is pressed. Looks nice, and is faster than SID or outlining.
lmeimann
Yes, if you SID over the pressed open seams you are stitching on the thread only, not fabric--that is if you are good enough to be exactly in the ditch.

ffq-lar
Since you have QP, do the quarter-inch line inside the outside seam of the four-patch (like a frame) and then drop a circle with a five-pointed star inside to continue your Western theme. Those could be scattered among the other pictorial stitching in the four patches and fill the space nicely. Love your fabric!
