Fastquilts
What invisible would you recommend for quilting? I have a quilt that is applique and need to stitch around but really want some kind of invisible thread and not sure what to use. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Mercedes
I just recently used the Superior Monopoly thread for the first time and loved it. I wound the bobbin with a half turn less tension in my turbo winder and piece of batting in the top thread guide. When I threaded the machine I used one less hole on the last tension guide and a thread net. It sewed out beautifully with no thread breakage. I'm a newbie so for this to work right from the get go was pretty cool.
Beachside Quilter
Barb, I use Essence by Fil Tec.
Primitive1
I use Monopoly and just use a regular thread bobbin, I like to use those magnetic bobbins. The monopoly is not shiny and you have to look really hard to see it....it is very forgiving for those "oops" when you occasionally hit the appliqué.... GMALKB
AND Superior now has prewound bobbins with both clear and smoke invisible thread ! I never had much luck winding my own. Haven't tried these yet in Millie, but have used them in my DSM and they work great.
pumpkinpatchquilter
I do use Superior's monopoly for appliqué but truthfully invisible thread is not my favorite for quilting (though lots of folks swear by it). I like to use Invisifil which is a 100 wt. polyester that to me is quite forgiving. So long as you use a similar shade to the fabric you're stitching it's nearly invisible. Zora
I avoid invisible thread if at all possible. I prefer Invisifil. A taupe color works well on nearly every color except stark white.
Gamache
Valerie, In the Invisifil line, is there a go-to-color that you recommend or do you use a variety of the colors they offer. Chris
Fastquilts
Thank you all so much I really appreciate knowing what to try. I will let you know how it turns out.
quiltermidwife
I use the Superior thread on top with Bottom Line in the bobbin which works well. Didn't realise Fil-Tec did a magnetised version. Will definitely give those a try as I love their threads and pre-wounds.
pumpkinpatchquilter
If you don't want to invest a fortune I'd say the go to colors are black, white, a mid shade gray, and a mid taupe/tan. One of those colors will bend into almost any fabric. pumpkinpatchquilter
I should add - Invisifil is also AMAZING for appliqué - turned or otherwise. Right now I'm appliquéing bias tape down to the front of a quilt, the bias tape is black and I'm using black Invisivil. I actually think I like it better than Superior's Kimono Silk...the stitches are indeed INVISIBLE. I will share a photo later today once my phone/camera charges back up! LOL Here's a photo of the quilt I'm working on - bias tape attached using adhesive and then hand stitched in place. I used to use silk for this - but since discovering Invisifil it's my favorite. All the tape on the right side of the strip has been stitched down.
