Embroidered Christmas Quilt,...

Recommended Posts

Pulled this ones off the frame late last night,...

I couldn't wait to work on this one,....  the embroidery work is so pretty,...

Like most of my custom work,... I started with really no plan,...

but I knew I wanted to really bring out all the detail,....

I used Quilters Dream Puff Batting.

The embroidery work was already backed with batting so I did not have to add an additional layer,...

This is my first attempt at Curved Crosshatching,...and I am pretty pleased with the way it came out,...

I love free flowing feathers in borders and the pebbles gave it the extra pop.

I used Glide thread in both Linen and Aloe to match the fabric,...

I love adding different layers of texture to add interest to each piece,...

and one of my favorite backfills is the straightline work,....  My Milli quilts them with ease,..

no rulers needed,... stitched in manual mode,..

I also like to play with stippling into pebbles,.... it draws the eye in and compliments each other nicely,....

Thanks for looking,....

This is absolutely beautiful!   I think it would be great to understand what year machine you have and if you used any of the machines accessories - like quilt glide if you have a newer machine or the hydraulic lift and how these worked for you, rulers or circle lord, etc.  I think this would help other newbies including me to see how these accessories could be used.   Thanks!

Hi Mercedes,..

let me see if I can explain my set up and what I used,....

I work on my original 2006 Green Millenium,... It has the standard table,.. with upgraded M&M Wheels,...  (Non Blissed)

No lift,..  but I do have the machine set rather high,...  I am 6' tall.  I like to be right on the quilt when working,...

I stitch mostly in Manual Mode,... and change stitch speed often,...  Love being able to change speed while stitching,  right at my fingertips,...

My machine is not equipped with Quilt Glide,... I adjust the speed to my movement and get into the rhythm of the quilt.

My favorite accessories,  that I use almost exclusively,... are my Hartley products,...

I use the Hartley Expanded Base for rulers,..or when I need just a touch more drag on a quilt,...

I use the Hartley Fence for Circles,.. Arcs,, and Crosshatching,...  The arcs for the outer border of this quilt were made using the Hartley Fence Circle Maker,...

(I love using this for most of my custom work,...  My hands have a hard time holding rulers,... this makes Curves,. Circles, Concentric Circles a breeze!!)

for straight line work,... I use the hopping foot for my spacing,... if I want smaller spacing,.. I just measure half of the hopping foot,....  no rulers,... just put machine in manual

mode and go,...  it's kinda relaxing,...   If you let your machine do the work...  it tracks quite nicely,... vertically and horizontally,...  :)

Hmm,... I think that is it,...

WAIT!,...

HOT TAMALES!!!!  I love HOT TAMALES....  Must have them when working on a custom quilt,... (well,  any quilt actually!!!)  ;)

I hope this helps,...

Wow and double Wow.....can you post a picture of the entire quilt.  That thing is absolutely beautiful and your quilting just highlights everything.

David

Hi David,...

I will try to get a full picture,...

There really is not much more to it,...  in the pictures above,...  the last green border you see is the end of the quilt,...

I will see if I can get the Whole Piece in a Picture,.....

Laura dear, as always, an eye popper!

You and I both love the texture of straight line quilting, mixed in with the ease and flow of pebbles and mini stippling.

So, did the gal put a layer of thin batting behind her quilt top when she was embroidering the outlining?
