kkey1030
O.K., I got off work early this afternoon and finally have time to play on my new Millennium (Malcolm). I loaded a quilt panel (Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer--the old tv special), and started to play. Beep Beep Beep Beep. The broken thread sensor keeps beeping at me. There is not broken thread, however, all seems fine. What's up? It's harassing my mellow as i slide into the zone on this glorious machine. I'm not making a masterpiece out of this panel, but I'm having a blast and it'll be fun to hang in my cubicle every Christmas at work. But this beeping has to stop! By the way, I bought lots of on-sale muslin to play with too. I'm going to have a blast this weekend. And I've learned a ton from this first experience. I will be more precise when I load important quilts on the machine, and I WILL get used to what buttons do what. This is what they call "the learning curve." I'm taking notes, and paying attention to what I do wrong...and what I do right. Stitch on! Kevin
barbm
Kevin, you can turn off the "thread break sensor," unless your sensor is an add-on for an older computerized model. then it won't "un-mellow" you so much....
LibbyG
I can't wait to see the panel!
kkey1030
I figured I can turn it off, but WHY is it beeping? The thread is obviously not broken. Of course I'd like this alert to be there when I need it, but not incessantly beeping erroneously.
AHuffman
Try going around the wheel one more time with the thread. Sometimes certain threads don't "grab" the ridges in that thread break detector wheel and when the wheel doesn't spin it will set off the thread break alarm. Let us know if that helps! kkey1030
Thanks, Angela! That makes sense. I'll admit that I put 60 weight thread on the machine but I just tied it to the end of what the factory left on and pulled it through instead of threading it myself. I'll double wrap it and see if it makes a difference.
kkey1030
And here's the little panel I quickly stitched for my premiere play with Malcolm. I learned a lot (mostly about what not to do). Still got lots of playing to do before I hit a serious quilt, but that's o.k. because I have a pile of UFO's to learn on. Zora
Great job. You are going to be a pro in no time. Re the beep...my Millenium beeps to signify that the machine is on in stitch regulated mode as a safety feature. I don't know if the new machines do that or not but I love that feature. Could that be the beep you are hearing?

Lynn, I'm sure that's one beep, but this beeping is ongoing and constant and the thread break icon is flashing. I'll play with double-wrapping and see if it makes a difference. Zora
Hope it works for you. Nothing worse than a mechanical device that nags you!
Mary Beth
I tried to like your picture, but I get an error, so yay you!!! So isn't your Millie a new model, not an after market part?
kkey1030
Yup Mary Beth, it's brand new (It was delivered on Monday).
RitaR
Mary Beth, it shows that you like the panel. Nice job on that panel David, especially for a beginner. I really like the spiral that ends with flat sides. There is a lot of potential for that design.
Scraphappyquilting
Just saw this topic as I am having the same issue! Just started playing on Millie and she's beeping at me too! Mine is a demo and i just got it during their recent sale. I tried wrapping the thread around more times and it still beeped. Did you ever figure out what the problem was? barbm
Scraphappy, if it's not the single beep that signals that the Stitch Regulator is on, then you need to send an email to service@apqs.com - they'll fix you right up!

Scraphappyquilting
Is it normal for service to take a few days to get back to you?
Helen Baczynski
Do you have the thread wrapped the right way around the thread break sensor wheel?
