Sheila S.
I have been practicing and got tired of it so I have just started quilting my quilts and have used Pantographs on them and they came out pretty good. But my last quilt I did I used curved and straight rulers on it but was never sure if I was doing it right. I did not have any trouble using the ruler but I never know how to travel to one place to the other. Am I suppose to cut my thread so I do not go over already stitched lines. There must be something written about this. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thank you, Sheila
Myrna Ficken
Shiela I feel it depends on what you are doing. Ruler work is so cool, however, it is also time consuming. I personally do not carry threads, I cut them. If you are "traveling" the needle plate is going to catch the carried thread and break them at some point. Zora
Depends on how far you have to travel. For instance, you can often travel in the ditch or along a previously stitched line if the distance is only an inch or so.
LisaC
If I am using a very fine thread that matches the background or clear thread, I do not hesitate to travel in the ditch. If you are using a contrasting thread and won't like the look of the thread build up then I would do the multiple stops and starts. You need to be the judge based on your project. With a little planning you usually can minimize the number of travels. Stopping and starting is time consuming and eats up a lot of thread.
