Mary Beth 840
Just placed an order for a few cones of Superior Kimono Silk thread. I have 1 quilt to finish, and another in my head fighting to get out. Anyone use it? Thoughts??
Zora 317
Yes, I have a little experience with it. It takes a bit of playing with the tension to get it to run without breaking, but it is beautiful when you find that sweet spot.
brendasr8 72
I use it all the time on my George and I absolutely love it. Above the tension discs, I thread it up through the first hole and down through the third one. I don't have any thread breaks. It is the thread that I used on this mini-quilt: http://forum.apqs.com/index.php?/topic/38134-iqa-silent-auction-mini-quilt/?hl=%2Bsilent+%2Bauction Brenda
LisaC 569
It sews beautifully, I love it! I had no problems; it is 100 wt and very fine so you do have to adjust tension accordingly. I believe i used Superior Threads Super Bob bobbins.
chrisquilter 372
I use it on show quilts and love it! Runs beautifully and looks great when you have to do some dense quilting. You will be amazed how it looks. Mary Beth
Quilting Heidi 1,398
I use it and love it! I'm using it right now on my star quilt. Quilts without any problems at all. Mary Beth
MelissaNH 42
What size needle do you use with the kimono silk, or just 100wt threads in general?
HeidiP 268
I use a 3.5 or a 4.0, depending on what I'm going through. I did a heavily appliqued quilt where a 3.5 needle would likely break in some of the thick stiff areas. The machines are timed for a 4.0 needle, so you can use a 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 without re-timing the machine. Silk thread quilts beautifully. Quilting Heidi
brendasr8 72
With my George I use a size 12 Schmetz needle. Brenda
Sallyquilt 17
Since silk is so slippery, would it be work to use So Fine #50 in the bobbin? Thinking of trying this on a future project. TIA, Sally
MelissaNH 42
Thank you! I will have to try that out.
