zeke
I finally bought a cover a few years ago. Doesn't cost much. Never had it get on my quilts because whatever oozed out allways got wiped off before and after quilting. Sorry to see this happen Mary Beth. Call and a cover for yours. Zeke. Mary Beth
Zeke, what cover....where do I get it. This is my mom's quilt......that my grandmother made before Alaska and Hawaii were states. I am so upset. I turned off the machine. Wiped the gear grease off the cap on the gear box. Moved all the tubs of fabric from under the table...this will not happen to my new fabric!! Cleaned as much of the grease off the top as I could. And turned out the lights. Those candy bars at each end of the table are not helping yet.
Mary Beth
Is that the gear box cap for $6? Shouldn't all machines come with that? Hum, maybe I don't get it.
barbm
MB, it comes standard on new machines. If yours doesn't have one, it might have fallen off - they're held on with Super Glue. Was your Freddie new? Or used?
Mary Beth
Purchased used from the factory in February.
Mary Beth
Just went back to the basement and crawled all over the floor under the machine....no cap. Look in all my tool and extra supplies, thinking I may have found it and no known what it was, no cap. Guess I will be placing an order in the morning. I am never going to get this quilt finished, so I can try to get the grease stain off of it. GRRRR.
Oma
I found my cap, but it kept falling off and Amy told me to clean it and around the hole really good then super glue it back on. Worked wonderfully. Easy enough fix if you have the cap.
Mary Beth
I am sure I don't have one. I will just call them in the morning and place an order....I am sure there are other items I 'need"
Mary Beth
I placed an order for the cap, but will continue to look for one here. Hopefully, I get it soon....
Neher-in-law5
Mary Beth, in trying to get grease spots out of clothes (even after being in the dryer multiple times) I have used the original GoJo waterless hand cleaner. I was able to smear it on and wash with warm water (even after letting the garment sit in the hamper all week). I hope you can find the right fix for both issues. Mary Beth
Support is great. I placed an online order last night. Today I got a message from Angie asking for a picture of the area where the grease is oozing. Told her I looked everywhere for the cap, but not sure it really ever had one. She is overnighting one. Yay!!! This is a sign....If I had been quilting more, I would have noticed this before now

Bonnie
you may never have had one.... my 2004 has one and the 2006 millie doesn't. glad to know you will be fixed soon.
Mary Beth
Bonnie, I assumed that even though the older machines did not come with the cap, mine should have had one sine it came from the factory in February of this year. Angie said it should have. If it did, I am not finding it.
Cagey
Mary Beth: On the bright side, I am wondering when your husband is going to submit a picture here showing you "bonding with Freddie." That is to say, a picture of you with your finger(s) superglued to Freddie's bobbin area while attaching the grease cap. Now that would make an interesting addition to this saga. Be safe. A little superglue can go a long way. You may even want to wear rubber gloves. Better to leave a little rubber behind verses some skin. Mary Beth
Cagney, you know me too well, lol. I have been known to do some crazy things, becoming one with my Freedom/Freddie could happen :-)

judyday
Mary Beth, even if this spot never comes out this is part of the quilt's story. That is the thing that is so precious about all quilts. The have a story to tell.
