About to move

Recommended Posts

We are getting ready to move next month to northern Pass Christian Mississippi. I think I am the only quilter in the area have a feeling there won't be much to quilt without traveling a distance from the house. I haven't seen anyone from that area on the forum except for one person from Hattiesburg. Well looks like I will have plenty of time for my own projects. Does anyone know of some good quiltshops down there?

Hi Bonnie. Where do you live in OK? I grew up in Tulsa - many many years ago. I'm now very retired and my DH and I live in Gray, TN in NE TN.

Moving can be quite a challenge. New home, new friends, new stores, new doctors, and just finding your way around. We moved into TN about 3.5 years ago. I knew 2 people here - NOT quilters at all. But I located a fun guild, and then I knew everything would be okay.

So, be encouraged. Even though I could only find 1 quilt store near you (Sew n Vac in Gulfport), and a Hobby Lobby not too far away (think 40% off one item coupon - every day), I found 3 guilds in the Gulfport / Biloxi area. THEY will know where to buy fabric. And they will need someone to quilt for them. I suggest visiting every one of them, and joining at least 2 of them.

Here are links I found:

https://www.facebook.com/magnoliaquilters/

http://www.mississippiquilt.org/quilting-groups-of-ms-and-national-guilds/

The above like has contact info for magnolia quilters and 2 guilds in Biloxi.

Safe journey, and be richly blessed as you make a life in Pass Christian, MS!

Thanks Sharon for the information. Right now I am located in Southwest Ok near Altus. Well I can always order on line but will miss the quilt show in Ok City every year but I will be making it this coming January provided that the weather is good. . Hopefully there will be shows down there. things are crazy here and looking forward to getting back to some kind of normal routine.

There are several quilt shops in Slidell - just west down I-10 from Pass Christian.  Have a good move and be sure to keep in touch with the Forum.

Hi Bonnie

I live right on the edge of Long Beach in Gulfport,

There is a nice quilt shop in Gautier not too far off I10.

https://www.blocktherapyquiltshop.com/  Joan will go out of her way to help you. (about a 20 minute drive)

and Sharon already mentioned Sew and Vac -- it if on Hw 49 and is probably the closest to you

Angela's in Slidell has a lot of bight fabrics  She has 2 yd., 1 yd., 1/2 yd., and true 1/4 yard pre cuts and also on the bolt fabric

and if you feel like taking a little ride (about 2 hours) there is a shop in Pensacola.

http://aandefabrics.blogspot.com/p/contact-us.html

This shop is inside of a drug store and when you pull up you will never expect what you see inside this shop. this is a quilters paradise!!!

And there is a quilt shop down 49 in Wiggins (about a 20 - 30 minute drive)

http://www.thefabricdock.com/

as always each shop owner has her own taste in fabric and I can find something I like in all the shops but A&E will blow you away.

Good Luck! Carol S.
