gable428
For those of you who do McTavishing, do you prefer with or without the stitch regulator? Thank you in advance for any replies. Gable
LindaB
WITH...... Our stitch regulator is the best ..... I use it all the time!!!
lyonden
I do both but really prefer the stitch regulator. I have it so I may as well use it.
TinaCollins
The only time I DON'T use my stitch regulator is when I am doing micro-stippling where I need more than 15 stitches per inch....

sewingupastorm
I would not even consider doing it without the stitch regulator!
kopykat
What is it and is it hard to do, I've just started with longarm quilting. Thanks, Kat
CucumberQuilting
Karen McTavish is the originator of this technique and she has an excellent book with a teaching DVD you should consider getting. quiltlinda
I've only had my machine up a week and a half. I've been practicing w/manual control. I thought that was the best way to learn. Since reading this post, I practiced today with the stitch regulator and things went much better. Thanks for all the advice I've read here. I'll have to try McTavishing now too. I've got the book already. I have so much to learn about my Millie!!!
Judi
If you are just starting with McTavishing - it really helps to use the SR - in case you get stuck in a spot - you can pause - look ahead and plan your path that you will take.... works for me! Welcome to the forum & Good Luck!
gable428
Judi, you are so right. A friend told me it's best not to use the S/R because then you can just go, but I notice for me, it's best with it because then when I do get stuck or I'm not sure where I want to go next, I can stop and think about it I guess it's one of those things that what may work for one person may not work for another. I am glad I asked you all though! Gable
mrmquilt
I have to put my 2 cents in here. I don't have a SR, would love to have one but can't right now. And I do just fine with McTavishing. It can be done and I don't seem to have much trouble. I just have to stop the machine when I get stuck. Michele
Stagecl
Stitch regulator does make is easier, but as Michele said above she is successful at McTavishing without a S/R. What we have on our machines is what we get use to quilting with. S/R does reduce a major chunk of the learning curve.
