quiltermidwife
Hi I want to get some new 'extension' leaders to zip on and off my existing ones. I'm thinking I can make these but wondered what weight canvas I should buy. Also, I haven't found any canvas that is 12ft wide so is it OK to use the length or selvedge parallel to the rollers? Many thanks for any advice you can offer. Chris
Sharon Deming
I just pin to the zippers - works just fine for me.
quiltermidwife
Thanks Sharon but I want to use Red Snappers when I'm not using the Zippers, so need to construct an extension.
Bonnie in Ok
I put my red snappers on extra fabric that is sewn to an extra set of zippers. I can change out the zipper with the red snapper or zip on just another zipper.
LisaC
I made the same set up and used Duck Cloth available at JoAnn's and ran it straight of grain just as you said. You have to buy the length of your existing leaders but it's worth it! The Duck Cloth is the same weight as my leaders.
Gator
I also made mini-leaders using duck cloth (canvas type). My mini-leaders are around 12 to 18 inches long and 10ft wide (10ft table). I did the pocket for my red snappers and marked the center so I would always know where it is on the leaders. This gives me the option to use my snappers or zippers. I have not had any problems with making the minis using the duck cloth as you said "straight of grain/parallel to the selvage". I posted a pic a long time ago but couldn't find it.
