Hands-On Classes at APQS this June with DeLoa Jones!

Recommended Posts

Can?t make it to the Machine Quilters Showcase this year? Or maybe you?re going, but you just can?t get enough learning opportunities? Don?t worry, we?ve got you covered! You don?t have to miss out on learning new and exciting ways to use your machine and help your talents grow this summer.

DeLoa Jones, one of longarm quilting?s premiere educators and author of the book Scraps, Organized to Perfection, is coming to the APQS Showroom and Training Center this month! If you?ve been timid about trying extensive freehand quilting, you won?t want to miss this opportunity. DeLoa is known across the country for her graceful style of quilting and student-friendly teaching style. Whether you want to learn more about feathers and how to make them fit your quilts, or you?re looking for inspiration for borders and block designs, these classes will help you get out of your rut!

Every single class is ?hands on??you?ll get to practice what you learn in the classroom right away! No waiting until you get home and risking forgetting all that you learned in class. You?ll work with only one other student on an APQS quilting machine, each taking turns quilting and watching the other. We?ve found that this is one of the best ways to learn new designs?you can actually see and do! Each full day class costs only $200, and your lunch and beverages are included?not to mention all the dark chocolate a quilter could want!

Check your calendar right away as class space is limited and we expect these to fill very quickly. To reserve your spot, call us at 1-800-426-7233 and speak to Brandie or email her at bmoore@apqs.com. We have a great discount arranged at a nearby motel should you wish to stay for more than one day (who wouldn?t?)

Feel free to contact me at dawn@apqs.com if you have any questions. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required at the time of your reservation to hold your class space. The balance is due at the beginning of each class. We hope you can take time for yourself and enjoy one or more of these wonderful opportunities!

Take a look at these exciting classes:

Progressive Feathers (all skill levels)

Tuesday, June 19, 9:30 a.m. ? 4:30 p.m.

Friday, June 22, 9:30 a.m. ? 4:30 p.m.

If feathers have been on your ?wish list? for some time but you?ve been afraid to tackle them on a quilt, now?s the time to take the leap! DeLoa begins this class with the very basics of traditional feathers. Once you understand these first simple steps, your ?progression? begins. You?ll move from drawing the spine and quilting that basic feather shape into customizing your feathers for corners, triangles, wreaths, hearts, swags and other odd shapes. The best part of all? You?ll learn to do it all freehand! After taking this class, you won?t have to search for the perfect stencil, because DeLoa?s techniques will give you the confidence you need to fill almost ANY shape with a feather!

Brilliant Borders and Spectacular Sashings (beginner-intermediate skills)

Wednesday, June 20, 9:30 a.m. ? 4:30 p.m.

Are you tired of using the same old pantographs and stencils in your borders? Tired of turning quilts to complete the side borders? Then this class is for you! DeLoa will teach you over 25 border and sashing designs, all of which are free motion! You?ll discover how to drastically reduce the time you spend quilting these areas with DeLoa?s tricks and tips for working designs around the corners, and then progressing down the side borders with ease. You?ll also gain some pointers on correct placement and spacing for your border and sashing designs, to make them work anywhere!

You?re Invited to a Block Party! (beginner-intermediate skills)

Thursday, June 21, 9:30 a.m. ? 4:30 p.m.

This special class is your ?invitation? to come and explore how to create interesting, unique designs for a variety of quilt blocks. Inspired by DeLoa?s new book, Quilting It Up a Notch: Continuous Curve, you?ll begin by conquering ?stitching in the ditch? and then partying all the way through to ?continuous curve? quilting. Each design will be unique to the block by spicing it up with loops, teardrops, and other odd shapes. Or we?ll add or subtract some lines of quilting to keep the designs fresh. The ultimate goal is to practice numerous designs for blocks, with only ONE start and stop! As a special supply request, please bring along 3-4 ?orphan? blocks that you can stitch on?blocks that you won?t be using in anything. This is also the perfect class to bring along those quilt tops that you just don?t know how to quilt, and you?ll head home with loads of inspiration!

Is this the Dawn Cavanaugh who had an article in Fon's and Porter

Jan/Feb 07??? If it is I LOVE this idea. I've used it on one quilt so far.

I can just imagine all the fabulous things that I could come up with,

if I could only put them on the paper.

Thanks so much for the article.

Michele
