Does it work - Razzle Dazzle after using Metallics?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I`m working on my own quilt which I mostly quiltet with Superior Threads Metallics. Is it possible to stitch over the metallic stitches with Razzle Dazzle or would the needle damage the metallic thread? I would like to use Razzle Dazzle cause it`s such an interesting thread and I`m sure it will have a great effect! By this way I would turn the quilt on the other side.

Thanks for your help!

Kind regards,

Romy

Hi Romy,

I'm sure my reply won't provide much help to you because I don't have any experience doing what you are contemplating, but, whenever I ask myself, "will it work?" I am reminded of the one terrible experience I had taking the plunge with a new experiment on a quilt I worked long and hard on and then ruined because I didn't follow one simple rule of thumb - if in doubt, always test first! It was a painful lesson that I'll never forget but a bit of a blessing because I've learned how fun it is to experiment with new ideas in a risk free - throw all caution to the winds - have fun in the sandbox kind of way. I think you may be on to something fabulous.

I believe Renae Haddadin did the same on one of her quilts. She didn't think the metallic showed enough so she used the Razzle Dazzle over it. I can't remember if she couched it or used it in the bobbin and sewed with the quilt front side down. I believe the later.

I agree, test it first! Coming from an over anxious and always sorry person!

I did do it with the RD in the bobbin, but my original stitching wasn't a metallic. I used regular thread to stitch the line...then flipped it over and double stitched with the razzle dazzle in the bobbin. I loved the effect! I would test it over some metallic but I would be surprised if it didn't work.
