quiltingtina
Hi. I have a potential new customer that I am meeting this week who has an old crazy quilt, lap sized, tha she wants me to simply "back" with black velvet or velveteen. I think it would better quilted with SID, and she is open to suggestions, but I have questions. Can I quilt through velvet/velveteen? How do I quilt it without crushing the material? Which thread? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
Sheri Butler
Can you post a pic of this quilt when you get it? All crazy quilts are done differently, it\'s hard to say SID, etc. when you havent seen it. From a "been there..done that..." crazy quilt thing.... check to see how many layers it currently has....etc. (just a suggestion..)
ffq-lar
Does the quilt have a backer on it now? Maybe the best solution would be to add the velvet as an extra back and simply tack-stitch it evenly and turn under the edges to whip-stitch down. Most of that would be hand-work. I don\'t know how velvet or velveteen does stretched on the rollers. It would be more like a tied quilt and best used simply for display. Please post a photo so we can get a better idea of the situation. What a treasure for your customer!
sewlinzi
I had to allover quilt a bedspread that was heavy cotton velvet on top and thick toile linen underneath. Experimented with a few threads then discovered that bottom line worked a treat - fab texture too! LINZI x
