KathyA
I love doing clamshells - with the ruler. I actually find it relaxing. This quilt was not square so I basted every 5 inches or so and used the steam then starch method to get rid of the 'cups' and waves. Worked great. I then worked my way up from the bottom. I recommended my customer put this one in a show(s). It's beautiful.

Sandra Darlington
The clam shells are so perfect on this quilt. I would not have had the "vision" to see them on this type of quilt, yet they look so classy and elegant. Great job!
Sandra Darlington
Did you use a stencil or is it a Circle Lord giant pattern board?

quiltmonkey
I believe she mentioned she used a ruler to do the clamshells. Which brings me to a question: When using the ruler for these, do you clamshell from bottom to top or do you quilt top to bottom...or does it matter either way?? Sandra Darlington
That takes so much more skill than the CL. She has very good control of her machine.

Merryjo2003
I really like how the clamshells look on the fan quilt. I usually do something in the fans itself, them McT to creat a lot of movement like the fans are moving air. I love how elegant this looks with the chamshells. I think I'll do that on the next one! Hester, I have a clamshell ruler called "Shells & Swirls Ruler" from the Gadget Girls. I did a queen size with it, but I didn't find it relaxing! I wish!! I have also used it of Does and Darts(?) on sashing and the Swirl part for borders. You can use it for a pass, then flip it in the opposite direction for a pass and make different designs. Kinda fun, just time consuming.
lindasewsit
Kathy, That IS a beautiful quilt!! What did you do in the fans? I can't really see that detail! LOVELY!!! linda
RitaR
That is really a pretty quilt.. One question on the clamshells, did you go right thru the fans with them, or stop at the fan and resume on the other side? Either way, it's lovely.
