See, Shana is not the only silly one. :D:P I have also received a lot of help from problems [as well as prevention of problems] by reading these posts. But I think the thing that I really like is the inspiration I get from seeing other people's work. It will spark a memory or an idea and off I go to draw it on paper. Or I will see a technique explained and have to try that. I think we teach each other so much. And of course, new talent is always welcome. And let's not forget the NQR (Not Quilting Related) topics that pop up. Whether it is a photo of grandchildren, dogs, or storm damage, we like to share. Info about quilt shows and fabrics mingles in with updates about family and prayer requests. So welcome to the forum. This is a good place to be. Shana, I think this is a good time for a group hug. As a former lurker, and now a regular, one of the most exciting moments of my life was actually 'MEETING' some of these quilters at MQS last May. In the lobby of the convention center, a table was set up with a poster board that said, "APQS Forum" all day there were usually quilters sitting at the table, especially during meal times, and between classes. The first time I walked by, I recognized two or three from their avatars and HAD to stop and introduce myself. THAT WAS A BIG STEP! I'm usually shy too but once they found who I was--a lurker--there was no turning back. Nineva, Linda Card, Shana, MaryBeth, and I don't remember who else, they ALL welcomed me warmly, and encouraged me to post. My quilt pictures were posted before I got home and once I did get home, I've not stopped. I really didn't get a chance to talk with them much but this is where we do that. SO--Watch for your favorite APQS forum buddies at your local or national or international quilt festivities and introduce yourself. You will be blessed! You don't have to KNOW these quilters--it's just knowing that we have this in common and we LOVE what we do. SHARE the PASSION! AND thank you APQS for sponsoring this forum. I have learned so much from reading these posts. I have had my Millie for about 3 years. I feel like I learn things every time I'm quilting. I still consider myself a novice. I do try to do my best on each quilt. My customers seem to appreciate what I do. The hard part is to not sit here for hours reading everything! The plan was for my husband to join me in quilting. He was letting me "learn and get the bugs out" before he started. Unfortunately he suddenly passed away from pancreatic cancer in June. (Around Mother's Day he had just run a 10K run). We would have been married 40 years Sept 7th. Now I'm learning to be a widow... I will try to participate more. Thanks for being so open and sharing AND caring! Susie B. I just want to say that I get so much good info from you all. I peek in here just about everyday to see what is going on. My mom owns a Millie and I "borrow"it when she lets me. Actually, I help her out as much as I can. I am more "techie" than she is, that is why you will find me here and not her. About me, I have a DH, (for 17 years), a 16 year old DS, 14 year old DS, 12 year old DD , and a jack russell. Thanks for always giving me a laugh, wonderful inspiration and good tips. Will was an awesome person & I have to say that everyday we have with our loved ones is a gift to truly cheerish. I say that as I get older because it has hit home. I have been quilting since high school. I am married to a wonderful DH and have a 1 1/2 year old son who is a handful. I also have 3 dogs--2 German Shephers and 1 Boxer. I don't own a LA yet, am still saving money. I have recently tried my hand at opening an online quilt business--what a learning experience! I really liked the recent posts about "bows". I am originally from Bluffton, IN and can relate to those with "farm" humor. Also the "hate school" post rings a bell, but from the other side! One, sadly, lost her daughter too when her husband was driving their home from the airport. My friend was talking to her DD on the cell phone at the time of the accident. I just can't imagine the horror! Prayers for you to gain strength as you go on. Welcome to all who have decided to join in the fun. I tried to be a "lurker" but it was just to hard not to say something. I've never been known to be quiet! My LA will arrive Sept 25..so close yet too far. Not really...I'm clearing and cleaning the space for it. Hubby said it won't come in the door if the room ain't clean. I have been lurking in these deep waters for about 7 years I think, without EVER logging on and sending a message. But you finally hooked me. I went and actually registered!! I love to read all this, and I have learned so much over the years. Thanks to all of you, you have helped people you don't even know exist! And I was at the Nashville show for the first, and apparently last time, and the quilts were amazing. Congrats to Marilyn and Myrna! What a stunning quilt they created. You guys are way too cool! I had a Designer Quilt Machine for 8 yrs before that. Owned a quilt shop for 13 yrs with 2 of my sisters. Sold the shop, kept the quilt machine. Love my new Lenni. Live in Tasmania, Australia with husband and youngest daughter. 4 Married children, 5 grandchildren, 2 more coming soon. My daughter in Colarado is having her first baby in November so I'll be visiting the States then. On my way there I'm visiting the Houston Quilt Festival. So excited. My sister is going with me. My last one just two years ago on my Birthday and our Wedding Anniversary of 11 years. Asthma was the reason for my loss. I can certainly sympathise with you but life goes on and you will make it thru . Just remember God had a different idea. Now just wait and see what he has for you. My Sister just lost her Husband of 16 years from lung cancer in April. She would call me and ask if I cried like she was mourning her loss. I said no. She checked herself into a phychiatric ward and found out she was suffering from Depression and Anxiety. She was in for a week and now she is in therapy and on meds. I have been reading for just over 2 years and have so much information saved that I am sure to be ready when I get my machine next year. I too am intimated by the talent that is shown and shared. It is so wonderful tho to see it all. Some history on me. I have been sewing since I was 4. My greatgrandmother had me handsewing my barbie doll clothes instead of her making them. I am truly greatful for that. I do love to quilt and can not wait unitl I get my milli. GGQ - I am sorry to hear about your sister, Betty. I to suffer from anxiety and depression and it is no fun. My family just lost a very young member recently. My nephew, he was 24. He was killed in an auto accident by his ex-girlfried trying to scare him. It takes time to heal, and having to deal with your own anxiety does not help. I will keep her in my prayers as we both try and heal from our losses. Thanks again to all that input and display of pictures. It is so wonderful to see and learn from. I love all that is done, eventho I am to quite to say so. Keep up the good work. I have a used Ultimate II that I purchased from a quilter in Maine who wanted to focus on art quilting. I took some basic classes at MQX in April and have been practicing in my spare time on small outlined quilts - actually I copied Pam Clark's practice quilt a couple of times on muslin and keep trying to do those feathers and flowers. All you folks in the midwest and California have so much experience. I never expect to be in business - just wanted a new hobby and a chance to finish some of my own quilt tops that are sitting in bags & boxes. Anyway - I always find a wealth of information on this chat that is very helpful and photos that are so inspiring. Thank you all for your hints and maybe someday I'll have something done that I can post. I have made lots of children's clothes, bags, totes and household items, but new to LA. I enjoy seeing what others are doing and learn a lot from the discussions. My DD and I share Millie, it is fun to have her interested in quilting, too. We have had Millie for 4 years and still lots to learn, or maybe it is practice, practice and more practice. I live in Southwest Michigan and have for the past 6 years. Before that we lived up North in Charlevoix the Beautiful. Moved down here to be closer to family. We have 2 sons, one on each coast. I have quilted for 30 + years. My DH is a retired surgeon and not a mixed media painter. Even though I am logged in as Calla my name is Barbara ( couldn't sign in as Barbara at the time I joined). I've posted a few times, most recently regarding Camp Mowana, but others have remained behind the scenes. I don't get much computer time these days, so I'm not on this site very much. But, when I am, I'm thrilled to see all of the open sharing and helpfulness of the group. I'm pretty new to both the quilting and longarm world, so I feel I've got a lot of learning and catching up to do to be able to play with the group. I don't have much to offer at this point, other than some of my very fine mistakes which I've made. I've already thought there could be quite a humorous book compiled of quilting/longarm goofs. I can already fill a couple of chapters! I will be going to DeLoa's camp and am looking forward to the experience. To those of you who will be going, it will be great to meet you. Susie, My prayers are with you girl! Take care, and time will eventually heal the heavy heart your currently feeling. My dear aunt lost her husband 2 yrs ago to pancreatic cancer. Found out he had it, and 7 days later he was gone. I took care of my auntie for the first year or so, until she was able to function and do things on her own. It took a while, but she made it, and I know you will too! Heck, just pop in here and chat and we'll all help get ya thru! Quilted Hugs for ya Susie! I bought my used Millie (the Beast, in a loving way, of course:P) from Barbara in Fernandina last year. I am an RN and work nights, so that is why I read the forums at odd hours. I am still feeling my way with the LA. I have only quilted 6 quilts since last October and only one was a commission. Al others were gifts. I am divorced and have 2 grands, who are the beneficiaries of many of my quilts. I have only done pantos not enough nerve to freehand yet. Ireally enjoy the forums and have gotten some good ideas. Time is usually the problem for me, and only check in once a day or if I am looking for help in area I will travel through the forums for my answers. This is a great place to get help with problems.
