Sweet "for awhile" Husband

Recommended Posts

I have to brag up my sweet husband...We went to California and back (to Montana) in a 4 day time span, because he bought his mid-life crisis car, a suped up Mustang, over the internet. So, we barely had time to stop anywhere but gas stations! Anyway, in Reno he let me stop at "Going Batty" a quilt store and that was fun, but the sweet thing is he told me about a store off the highway by Great Falls "The Quilting Hen" at Carter, MT that I didn't even know about. He could have blazed right by it while I was looking at my quilting books and I would have never known the difference. So we stopped in and that was really fun. Then, we got home and took the Mustang for a quick spin along the face of Fort Peck Dam and I screamed and he got mad at me...I hope he survives his mid-life crisis!...I hope I do too!:P

Why not just toodle up to Glacier before the snow closes it, and check out the quilt shops around Kalispell? I think there's one called Glacier Quilts or something like that. I was up there a couple years ago and they moved from a "house" to a new shopping area. Really nice!

How about a picture of the mustang? I'll bet it's cool.

My dream car is a 66' mustang convertible (red of course;) )

My DH's brother went through his mid life crisis (over the past couple years) bought a Viper (sports car) and kept driving it to the casinos gambled away his lifes savings, kid's college funds etc... and eventually lost his wife, she divorced him this past spring. Mid life crisis' can take a toll if not kept in checked. So my advice is as long as he is willing to go to quilt shops and not casinos you are in good shape

I have to agree on the midlife crisis thing - back in 2002, when we really couldn't afford it, my DH bought a Mustang convertible - for me, he said!:P I don't know about the older 'Stangs - they must be different, but ours didn't have a large trunk at all! Good thing I wasn't seriously quilting back then....

We kept the car two years, and after having to garage it all winter (not suitable for the very snowy/icy conditions we have here in Eastern WA:() aaaand having to pay for insurance all winter, since it was financed, we decided we could live without it. Haven't hardly missed it. But it was fun while it lasted!;)

Barb,

That's funny that your husband said he "bought it for you". My husband said he still might have to buy me one, cuz this one is charcoal color and I always wanted a yellow one with black stripes! I don't know where his money tree is...but I'd like to find it! I could buy a lot more fabric! I think they should call us the "Great Pretenders"...we pretend we have money! The credit union really likes us!

I must brag on Dennis!

His life-long motto is "Scratch every itch"!!

He has scratched some interesting itches--all lawful and all while being fully employed and never putting our security at risk.

And he has patiently and proudly watched as I scratched a longarm itch that will never end!!!

Lucky me!

Oh, Robin you missed the best quilt store in Reno..."Windy Moon Quilts"....WAY bigger than Carrie's "Going Batty"...next time make him stop there...its right off of I80 and wouldn't take but 10 minutes to get there from the main drag.

AND The Quilting Hen in Carter is really a cute place...they have about 500 bolts of fabric, but is in the middle of a huge chicken farm...hense the name. That's where I got my Janome that's at the doctors office right now. You have to stop there next time you go into the Falls.

Gosh, when does this "mid-life crisis" begin? I'd love a Mustang, or an old Corvette maybe... I don't think I want to risk the cute young blond (I value my neck, AND Margie - who would surely break it!), but the sports car thing is definitely something to look forward to.

Now Margie would say that my '52 Harley Panhead qualifies, but I disagree. I'd have had a Panhead back when I was young if I could only have afforded it!

And yes, I'd be willing to stop off at a quilt shop or two. Seems like a fair exchange...:D

You guys are too fun! I'm sure glad I quit lurking!

Bonnie, I took a quick look in the Reno phone book and Going Batty was the first name that caught my attention. Sorry I missed out on Windy Moon Quilts...maybe next time when we go to get "my" yellow mustang with the black stripes!

Well, I'm off to bed...my husband's racing the mustang in Malta tomorrow...and I'm going on a preplanned Shop Hop...priorities, priorities, priorities! Good night all:)

Bonnie, you haven't seen the NEW Going Batty. They moved way down on South Meadows (which probably had nothing the last time you were in town) and into a strip mall. At first, it was rather bland. Now, though, they've hired an interior decorator and the place really looks nice. Windy Moon does have way more fabric, but its so hard to see because its crammed in there. WM is usually my first choice, but I make it to Going Batty occasionally too.

Robin, Here's another excuse for a road trip and you won't even need to leave Montana. Corvallis has a quilt shop featured in the latest Top Ten Shops, and it's in the old church on the main drag. When we lived in Missoula, I used to drive past that church once in awhile and think what a neat quilt shop it would make. And now it is one!

Mr Margie,

At our house midlife hit us both at the age of 43. He got a new 2003 Kawasaki Concours and I got a Gammill Classic Plus. We both love them, but I can actually make money with mine to buy more fabric and tools. He has to work a real job (still) to pay for gas, insurance and week long trips with all his biker buddies.

Yes April, I've discussed that with Margie and I contend that a hobby that makes money is no longer a "hobby".

No, she didn't buy that logic either, but it sounds good when I say it!

I have to tattle a little though... After I took Margie for her first motorcycle ride, she said, "If you want me to ride with you, I'm going to have to have my own bike." I bought her a Honda Rebel 250 and she's been my "biker buddy" ever since.

Of course, when I'm out riding in thirty degree temperatures, she's quilting...

Mr. Margie,

That's another thing my husband wants is a motorcycle...I'm with your wife...if I ever do that, I want my own bike...it has something to do with controlling my own destiny! Maybe if I had my own mustang and was always the one behind the wheel when we go out in it, I wouldn't have to let out blood chilling screams! But how do you look at quilt magazines while driving a motorcycle?

And, Sharon...on the trip to California I was looking at my new Quilt Sampler and read about the store in Corvallis...but it was too far out of the way for this trip...looks like a really neat store. Maybe next time.

To ride and read at the same time, you just have to multi-task....

I'm converting Margie's featherweight to 12 volts and building a bracket for the handlebars of her bike so that she can ride and piece quilts at the same time.

I'll post a picture when I get it done!

I'll also post a warning if she's out on the road so everybody can stay home. And don't worry, I'll try to get a video of the fiery crash when she's actually riding the Super Singer-Honda Quiltrocket. I'll be the one on the Harley, talking on the phone, making a sandwich, pouring a cup of coffee, and aiming the camcorder...
