Fastquilts got a reaction from quilterkp in Which Size Bobbin to Get
I have the Freedom w/sr and also the M bobbin.  I had an ultimateII with the L bobbin and I cannot tell any difference in the tension on either one but love having the extra thread on the M.

I just finished another t-shirt quilt yesterday.  I always try to just meander and use either light weight poly or 80/20.  The one I did was suppose to be a Christmas gift but the guy passed on Sat. and so I finished it and gave to his girlfriend of 19 years.  So sad but she has lots of memories of him playing softball through the years.

I have the shark rocket stick vacuum and love it.  In fact I have one for my quilt studio and also one for my house.  It is not cordless but I still love it.

Fastquilts reacted to mlsa3 in The Dove Emblem on APQS Machines
I haven't asked a question in a few days so while waiting for "her highness" to wake I thought I would ask a question that I've been meaning to ask for a while now.

The "dove" emblem on APQS machines....does anyone know the story behind it?  Is it a Christian symbol or is it not a dove?  Being a christian it always warms my heart when I see it but then it might not have anything to do with Christianity.  And no I'm not trying to start a debate or anything on religion.

I'll still love APQS no matter what the symbol stands for.  I just have a curious mind.

Ok...I'm a bit slow this morning.  I did a search and found part of a thread about the dove.  Seems the original owners put it on the machines as a show of their faith....when they sold the company to 3 people part of the deal was that the dove had to stay on each machine.  I couldn't find the original posts that went more into detail but got the feeling that this company is run on Christian principles.  Just another reason I want to one day own an APQS machine.

I am also looking for a new iron.  I purchased an Oliso and loved it but that didn't last long.  It quit heating after about 3 months.  I have had the steam generator ones and also loved them while they worked.  I have decided that the best thing is to never put water in an iron as that is what kills them.  I use the Best Press a lot and love the results.  Thanks for all the info.  I love this blog.

I'm thinking about selling my QZ.
I have the whole system...and a few of the groovy Boards.
I used to love using it, but now am almost strictly quilting freehand designs.
I'm from the 'galloping horse society, so I'm not really into such precise accuracy.
So, it's just collecting dust at this point.
If you've sold one, can you inbox me how much you got for it.
I have no idea what is a fair price.
    Thanks guys.

I had someone call me wanting me to clean her domestic machine and she told me the cat had peed on it and I told her I wasn't touching that machine.  One thing I cant stand as I am allergic to them.

I have done lots of photo quilts and I personally think that the pictures need some stitching in them.  If you leave all the pictures without stitching it just looks tacky to me.

I was just about to go to the community centre and walk the track for a couple of miles.  Maybe I should stay home and get a paid workout.

That is so exciting and I know how you feel.  Years ago we needed a new garage and the only way I would agree to it was if I could have an upstairs for my studio.  I had sewing and quilting stuff all over our house.  My husband finally agreed and I got an 18 foot by 30 foot room.  I am very blessed to have the space and love getting to do what I love.  I hope everything goes great while you are transforming this space.

I agree with all above.  I make a lot of these and when someone calls and tells me the size then I give them a price and if they want it done they pay the price otherwise someone else can do it.  We all put a lot of time into our work.  A good friend of mine wanted to make 2 for her grandkids and they are almost like my grandkids to me.  I helped her do the first one and she was amazed at how much time there was in making one.  Just yesterday she bought my lunch and helped me fuse the interfacing to one I am working on.  She told me she appreciates all I do for her and wants to help me any way she can.  She is just getting into quilting and since I just retired in on Jan.1 she loves to come to my studio to quilt with me and I love having her.

It is frustrating Teresa..... Wish I could send them to the fabric store tell them to pick up a backing piece measuring 80``x 90`` and 7 yards of light weight interfacing and a package of Batting then we would talk about how much it would cost to make a quilt.

My Millie is slowing wending her way home from a visit to Iowa. I haven't quilted since Jan 3rd. Did I have withdrawals? Yes. What have I been doing?---remember I retired recently so my time is now my own...
I cleaned the studio. That took a week and I brought so much cr*p into the sewing room in my house that now I need to clean that!
Made jewelry. I'm making vintage button earrings and rings to sell at my guild quilt show in October.
Felted a bunch of thrift store wool sweaters. Made two purses out of some of those felted sweaters. That was a blast!
Spent too much time on-line looking at quilts, art, fabric sites, FB and joined a couple of on-line quilty groups. Started actually posting on Facebook.
Put together a seven-part series of tutorials on fabric surface designs (think dyeing) for my guild and made the first samples.
I was glad to have some time to dabble in new crafts and revisit some old ones.

Thank goodness I filled my hours or else I might have had to do some house cleaning! Whew! Dodged that bullet!

I have made a lot of t-shirt quilts and I try to talk everyone into letting me do them from start to finish as most people have no idea of how to stabilize them and I actually had one that I took completely apart and remade it.  The client had made it and it was horrible.  I know this person and she has a craft business and is very good at what she does but making a quilt is not included in this.  I called her and told her I would be taking it apart and redoing it and she had no problem with that.  I made a second one for her a couple years later and she just brought me the shirts.  I always use a cotton backing and lightweight poly batting.  I do quilt through the entire shirt and have never had any problems.

It is not up to you to make her hobby more affordable..which is really what she wants. The fact that she misunderstood does not mean you misled her. Maybe she should come get her quilt and take it wherever they took the one quilted the way she wants. I bet it won't be 1.25 cents an inch. I don't do custom for less than 3.5 cents as a starting point. I don't do anything for less than 1.5 cents. If you lost her as a customer because you want to be paid what your work is worth, you haven't lost much.
