I buffed inside the needle hole & the bobbin basket.  I have an M so it has what looks like a big mouth on it when you look down from the top.   buffed that really good.   Cleaned it up, added oil & it worked great.

Ok so I hadn't heard the pigtail thing.   Wasn't it.   Called Angie at apqs today.     Buffed things I didn't know you could buff and it's stitching great!

hbuchwitz got a reaction from Mary Beth in Do you ever baste the entire quilt before quilting?
I pinned a quilt today along the bottom every few inches between the top & bottom roller bars in the front.  Not densely like I would when attaching it to the rollers -just enough to hold it in place while I quilted.   Kind of what MaryBerth suggested but I did it between the bars so I had easier access for getting my fingers in & knew they couldn't be hit by the machine.  That really helped!  I ordered the clamps from Quilters Apothocary.... the magnet bars just don't work at all for me.

ACTUALLY, this just happened to me, and Ive never had problems after loading. But just did. So I am taking it off the frame and turning it around so the bottom is on the top and I can quilt it. At least its my quilt and not a customers. Wish me the best. There is a first time for everything. LOL

I love that idea & I think that will totally help!  I tried those magnet bars - but they don't "stick" super good - so I'm thinking I'm challenged or Harbor Freight changed them.   I ordered some of the clips that Quilter's Apothecary sells but they haven't shown up yet.

Thanks Mary Beth!   This last one was a lot of piecing on the diagonal - so I started out with it on the top roller but just couldn't get it to roll nicely no matter how much finger "scrunching" I did (Dawn's twisty method that I have no idea what it is really called - but to overcome the seam bulk & load it "tight" on that top roller.... it was a  challenging quilt with a lot of bias stretch in it.   The customer has another one coming so I want to know what to do next time to make life easier!

If it's not too late - I just took the class from Dawn & it was amazing!!!!!! I wonder if she'd work out some sort of virtual option for people who don't have a local dealer & are far away from Iowa.

What an excellent video! Thank you!
Part 1... Did the bobbin tension test... Per Jamie Wallen's test, my bobbin tension was way too tight... I've loosened the screw and have my bobbin tension just as his video shows.
I love his explanation of how the threads merge in the quilt sandwich... Gives you a great reference point...
Stay tuned for Part 2... After coffee and a shower!

One suggestion I got when first starting out was to use a good quality poly thread like OMNI or so fine and just use it for a while....I did that and and now more comfortable with adjusting my tensions and have started using other threads and some pre-wounds as well as winding my own.  yep, non-stitch regulated is smoother when doing smaller stuff.....the machine tries to keep the stitches equal length when in stitch regulated so you are fighting that wonderful feature when doing the small stuff...using smaller stitches can help a bit.  I haven't mastered running non stitch regulated yet but like doing it because it is so much smoother...I just turn the speed up and ignore the inconsistent stitch length...bad I know...but I am concentrating on listening to the motor speed and trying to keep that sound consistent so hopefully, my stitching in non-regulated mode with improve.  Hang in there...I too wanted to start out being perfect...but alas...there is that silly learning curve.  LIn

hbuchwitz reacted to srichardson in black light upgrade, front thread holder.... should i?
I like my front thread holder.  I haven't noticed a difference in the handling of my machine and it sure beats having to walk around, or in my case squeeze behind my Millie to change threads!  I can't say that I use my black light too often.  In fact I tend to forget that it is there.  I will have to remember and use it more often.

Thought I'd post a follow up - APQS suggested I use the thread cone cover.... that completely did the trick!  Just in case anybody else has issues ever.... use the thread sleeve.

Jim - do you pin to backing or to the other leader to do this?

    Thanks!

I have used quilters dream wool and warm and natural Batting. I really think it is the way the Maxine head moves so my husband is going to work with me and try to adjust the wheels. I am hoping that help but if it I will adjust the hopping foot.
    Thank you for your help.

There is a way to loosen the rollers on the basic system (no bliss).   I can go take a photo later but 2 of the wheels have a nut that is off center.  If you adjust that it moves the wheels closer/farther from the rail making it flow smoother/harder (left-right I think - the front/back doesn't have the adjustment - or the other way around).  I'm close to Des Moines so rather than the freight charge I paid a delivery setup charge & Bob with APQS had me test it out & adjusted those to my liking before he left.   Have hubby find those.

Try wrapping you tread around the tension disc once and loosen the tension.
