Compuquilter - starting a new row and basting sides

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I just had a light bulb moment! When I first got my CQ I read somewhere else the question:

"I've finished my first row, now I want to stabilise the sides before stitching my second row - how do I do this and still start my 2nd row in the right place.?"

The suggestion was return to the start position,

move down to where the 2nd row starts and

mark the needle position with pen or a pin,

release your x and y axis clamps,

stitch the sides,

replace your x and y axis clamps,

move the head to the mark or pin and start sewing.

I was worried about marking the batting and when I used a pin I was worried about accuracy and, what if the pin moved

This is what I have just done today and it works beautifully:

Stitch my first row,

Return to start,

Index down to 2nd row

Release x and y clamps

Baste sides

Replace clamps and stitch

I don't have to mark it any way because the clamps on both x and y axis wires don't move so when I move the machine head to the clamps, the machine is where it was at the start of the 2nd row!

I have only just worked this out and tested it once but it makes sense to me, hope it speeds things up for everyone.

Have a nice weekend

OOps in my excitement I missed a bit. Previous instructions work if you can fit two or more rows in available space, if not try this:

Stitch my first row,

Return to start,

Index down to 2nd row, place a pin horizontally under the needle

Release x and y clamps

Baste sides

Replace clamps (they haven't moved)

Roll the quilt forward until you can stitch the height of the pattern comfortably and jog back to where the pin is

Stitch
