Come join us for 3 days of fun and learning on the beautiful hills of St. Francisville, Louisiana. This year we are expanding our retreat to include a Mystery Quilt. Our first clue will be revealed while we tour the famous Myrtles Plantation, one of "America's Most Haunted Homes".

Mystery Quilt

The Myrtles is synonymous with a mystery. Join us “…up a lazy river…” at the Judson Baptist Retreat Center to unravel a mystery. You can’t be “Lazybones” working on this fabulous quilt. As the clues unravel, you may even get “Stardust” in your eyes. Intrigued? Join us.

All pieces are pre-cut, so all you have to do is follow the clues and enjoy “…the cool, cool, cool of the evening…”.

Tuesday

Jamie Wallen- Jamie’s Greatest Hits and Then Some

Intermediate/Advanced (6 Hour Hands-on) **Predominately a drawing class

In this class we will learn favorites from Jamie's extensive repertoire of quilt designs. From Cotton Tracks to Thread Fusion and then lots of fresh new designs that will include paisleys and florals. Jamie will cover his famous traditional longarm flurry feathers, as well as the "over and under-feathers.” We will also brush-up on some old favorites, swirls, woodcuts, flowers. Then take everything to the high-end custom realm with some Threadfusion.

Supplies students need to bring:

1. 8X11 newsprint tablets

2. A LOT OF ENERGY to cram in ALL the designs planned. A handout is included with this class for all the specialty block designs.

DeLoa Jones-The Basics of Feathering

Beginner/Intermediate (6 Hour Hands-on)

Unlock the mystery of free motion feathers. These feathers are simple and easy but yet elegant for any quilt. You will learn the basic feather and then how to use it in crosses, wreaths, hearts, swags, and borders. Learn how to vary the feather shape to fit into different quilt styles. Many designs and ideas are offered in this class.

Sue Patten-Stunning Sashings

Intermediate to Advanced (3 Hour Demo/Lecture)

This class is packed full of new and unique designs for Sashings. This is a fast-paced class that explores the balance between design and texture. Students will build confidence in their free motion skills while learning new designs created to maximize the art of texture which will enhance any quilt that comes your way. These are not your average traditional designs, but rather new and innovative designs to help you achieve that cutting edge in your show quilts and full, custom client quilts. We will explore the age old question when to stitch in the ditch and when to ditch the stitch, and change the way you view Sashings forever. If you’re tired of the same old loops, hearts and bows then come and experience a new age in quilting designs.

Jessica Brunnemer- The Background Adventure

All Levels (3 Hour Demo/Lecture)

Join me for an adventure into background fillers. We will explore the basic oldies as well as throw in many new and innovative designs that will add elegance and texture to your quilts. Many of these designs are versatile enough to use as all overs as well as small backgrounds. I will also add some texture designs for the landscape type of quilts that you may have. A little bit of everything.

Wednesday

Jamie Wallen-Color Explosion! Cotton & Silk Dying Class

All Levels (6 Hour Hands-on)

Learn to dye cotton and silk fabrics from the master. Jamie’s dying techniques produces beautiful rich colors on large pieces of fabric. Once dyed, these fabrics can be used as a quilt backing or cut up to use with other hand dyed fabrics in a quilt top or a textile project. Students will dye both cotton and silk. In addition, techniques on painting fabrics and using dye pens will be introduced. Wear old clothes and old shoes!!! Gloves will be provided.

Sue Patten- Free Motion Edge-to-Edge/All- Over Designs

Beginner/Intermediate (6 Hour Hands-on)

NO marking, NO turning of the quilt, and NO pantos needed!!! Come learn how quick and easy those quilts can be done using free motion. This class covers design ideas, threads, batting, texture and movement to create evenly distributed quilting. In addition, students will learn how to create and quilt outside boarders without having to turn the quilt!! Students will learn everything from soft flowing feather designs to all out feather alternatives. Imagine being able to complete those customer quilts in half the time with no math and designs that interlock and fit perfectly from the first row to the last every time. Come join in this all out edge-to-edge, all over, free motion, extravaganza!!

Jessica Brunnemer- Victorian Feathers and Feather Designing

Confident beginner (6 Hour Hands-on)

Jessica will let you in on a little secret and show you how she designs all the feathers that you see on her website. She will show you how to quilt the traditional Victorian feather and then how to design these feathers to fit the quilts. These feathers will take a step out of the traditional as Jessica teaches you how you can make feathers dance across the quilt.

Thursday

Jamie Wallen-Take a Break

All Levels (6 Hour Hands-on)

This last day class will be Jamie’s Swan Song to our retreat this year. Jamie will start off teaching how to use the wonderful fabric inks to create photo-realistic textures on fabric. We will then slide over to our domestic machines as he teaches his partner’s (Rosanne Campisi’s) incredible Gallery Baskets. Next Jamie will be showing us his techniques and variations to create some wonderful locker hooked rugs to use up those leftover fabrics from our stash. To close out the day Jamie will then demo his thread art bowls. This will be a great class to take to begin coming off the retreat high from all of the long arm classes.

Supplies students need to bring:

1. A good- working domestic machine with a zipper foot. (Bring a free motion foot if you would like to try a Thread art bowl along with Jamie)

2. Bring various favorite strips of fabric (2” Strip’s) to complete your Gallery Baskets. (20 strips would be plenty)

3. Bring 2 or 3 half yard cuts of fabric which will be used to ‘start’ your Special locker hook rug.

The completion of the Supply Kit will be provided for you at class for $15.00.

DeLoa Jones- Welcome to my Block Party

All Levels (6 Hour Hands-on)

Sampler quilts will no longer be a headache but become a joy after this class. You will learn many ways to do a block with continuous curve, loops, twists, curls, stencils, feathers, etc. With little marking or stops and starts you will quilt your way around the block and home again. I will also show you how to connect blocks and all your quilting on a quilt to make your quilting time more productive. We will discuss many ways to quilt traditional quilts and various blocks. You will be able to tackle that next quilt with a lot of design ideas.

Sue Patten- Thread Art Extreme

Intermediate/Advanced (6 Hour Hands-on)

Have you ever wanted to thread art on your long arm? Come AND see how fun and easy it can be. Sue will take you through step-by-step from outline texture straight to full fill in thread art tapestry. Using a variety of different threads to shade and highlight designs, as seen on “The Quilt Show” and “America Sews”. She will discuss batting and thread choices and touch on reversible quilts using top and bobbin work. She will show you how easy it is to create beautiful works of art using variegated threads, and explore added texture with her unique background fillers to complete your future works of art!! Come experience a world of beauty created with thread in this high speed, heart pounding, “Thread Art Extreme!!”

Jessica Brunnemer- Extravagant Borders

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate (6 Hour Hands-on)

Let me show you many border designs that will “wow” your quilts. I will show you 20 designs along with many variations that you can free motion on your quilts with no marking or turning your quilts. I will show you how to go around your corners and down the sides of your quilts. Sashings will be a breeze with my quick and easy methods. Tons of ideas to help your quilting be quick, easy and elegant.

*All participants will need to bring their favorite drawing and general note taking supplies for all classes.
