I did a blog post a few years ago on how to take quilt pictures ( indoors and outdoors) with just a basic camera, before I got my Canon Rebel T4i.
You can check it out here.

Tamarack got a reaction from Bonnie in Ok in It's all Terry's fault! :)
Terry inspired me to get my dyes out again and I have been producing Ice Dyed pieces like a mad woman!  I went to a retreat last week and showed the ladies ( and one of their sons) how to create this fabrics and they had a great time.  The shop owner asked me to dye some more and make infinity scarves to sell in her shop for the summer so I have 15 scarves made.  Oh this is so addictive!  Thanks again Terry for your advice.
Here is a pictures from the retreat, my latest batch drying on the line and one of my scarves.

Tamarack got a reaction from Quilting Heidi in Straight line quilting
I load the quilt so the straight lines are horizontal to the roller bars. I then just quilt back and forth, ending in the outer edge and traveling in the edge of the top fabric so the threads are not cut when trimmed.  I use my channel locks on my Millie, no rulers.

If you need to do straight lines in both directions then turn the quilt.
If you have to do diagonal, which I won't do for clients, you can zig zag across the quilt top to get the same effect.

Terry i keep coming back to look at these fabulous dyed pieces. I looked into Susan's class but I missed the sign up.
Can you tell me how they folded the design the students on the left are holding?  I just love the idea of making these for a retreat I'm hosting this fall and they would make a fun project!

I just finished custom quilting my client Megan's Arcadia Avenue quilt and it feels so good to be done.  It was a great design challenge for me as it is a very modern quilt and I'm more of a traditional girl!   And best of all the quilt lays flat!!    Oh and it was -26'c with a -32'c windchill when I was taking those pictures outside!

Beautiful and love the colors.  Dumb me...I was looking at the second picture and was trying to figure out what type of designs you used on the large border and then it occured to me that you had laid the quilt on the snow and I was looking at the snow.

Tamarack reacted to Quilting Heidi in Luminous Splendor is done!
OK I promise this is the last picture I'll post.  I finally have Luminous Splendor done!  I wasn't sure at all what how I was going to bind this quilt and I didn't have much fabric left.  I only dyed Fat Qtrs and I couldn't find my dye recipe so could't replicate with certainty (mind you that this quilt took a lot longer then I ever planned).  Anyway I kept thinking about what I could do that would pull it all together.  One day I thought of prairie points and went through my stash.  I found 2 more fat qtrs of pink that were from the same dying session or at least they matched really well.  I knew the pink would work pulled to the outside since the inside was pink (2" sq's folded in qtrs).  I then decided to add the green (1 1/2" sq's folded in qtrs).  I didn't have any spare green squares, I actually only had one small strip 1/2" by 18" left!  I wasn't sure how a double prairie point binding was going to work because it was pretty bulky; however it worked out just fine and I'm super happy with the outcome.  I decided to miter my facing, boy was that a challenge with all that bulk!  I won though and even ended up with square corners so I was super happy.  This will go to MQX and I'm hoping it will also be juried into AQS Syracuse show.  If all goes well I'll enter it in all the AQS shows for a year.
