Tella got a reaction from PaulineEB in LUCEY START STOP NEEDLE UP DOWN ACTING UP
Hi Amy or Dawn and other friends,
I am quilting away a panto within borders and started out fine...start stops working and so was needle up down ...now the handles on both front and back are not cooperating and of course this is the time to act up when I am doing a panto inside borders and starts and stops have to be exact...can't be a regular panto when this happens so I could at least quilt off the top...no..I had this problem once before and did need a replacement circuit board of some kind. But now it is a vague memory and can't remember what I can try to adjust...
Amy you were a great help last time and wonder if you could email me, respond here or call me Monday...or I will call you in case you don't see this....I appreciate your help...
And Happy 4th of July to my friends south of the border....

Thank you to all you helped...we did have to use some kind of rotary drill that cut a line through the screw..it came out quite easily after that..my neves were shot as sparks were flying everywhere around my sweet Lucey, who was traumatized by the entire event...after all it was supposed to be a "spa" treatment for her
...she is feeling better today....Lucey has been cleaned, oiled, motor brushed checked, etc, etc..
Funny aside...the night before I posted this...my husband suggested a couple of different methods...for one method he asked "Would you be upset if the machine gets scratched a bit?" Needless to say what kind of a question was that? That method was a NO...lol

She sounds like a person who will be impossible to please....I wouldn't do free sketches for her either...she could take your ideas and go somewhere else...I might show her a sketch in person but I would not send it via email or give her a copy ...tell her to research and use Pinterest etc and bring you ideas...and then of course you could add to them after that...I have this happen all the time when I am asked for drapery ideas....

Hi Tella! That pit-of-the-stomach feeling has been felt by every longarmer in history!
You've interpreted my long-winded instructions correctly. Add batting strips all along the sagging part as the sagging appears. Only add when it sags and only enough batting to elevate the backer to the normal height. And yes, under the roller closest to you.

I'll share my first quilt story to try to make you feel better. I had zero paying customers under my belt and three of my own quilts quilted when I ventured to several LQS's (Local Quilt Shops) to see if they'd allow me to leave some business cards. Sure, we'll take your cards they said. Then I offered (as is standard with this transaction) to quilt a shop sample for them at no charge in trade. The owner bundles up and hands me her Thimbleberries Club BOM that she had pin-basted and planned to quilt herself on her domestic machine. Queen size, sampler blocks, filler blocks that were checkerboard and HSTs, basket blocks, applique, blahblahblah. It was HUGE! I almost cried. Two weeks later, lots of frogging, lots of thread color changes, a few meltdowns and wails that I "couldn't do this" and it was finished. It wasn't perfect. But it was OK. And best of all, she liked it a lot. She told me she was happy that I didn't quilt it to death "like most longarmers do". It hung in her shop for a year and I did get some business from my cards there.

So realize that you have taken your first steps and now there's no going back. And you'll never want to go back anyway!

Tella reacted to Beachside Quilter in I need HELP - stain on quilt
Just noticed these dots are very near a RED border; be sure to use any stain removal products with care in case it migrates over to that border and causes it to bleed.  You can ask me how I know that!  May be advisable to wait until quilting is finished and quilt can be treated for stain removal and laundered immediately along with color catchers.  Is this your quilt or a customer's?

I just wanted to let you know what I did with Entangled...I emailed the company and the response I got was that it is a very difficult pattern to do ...I am definitely not happy with how it quilts from the back....
I tried a couple of things...I copied ths pattern to tracing paper...not happy with this either...paper difficult to remove...not supposed to be...
So I took a plastic template sheet and traced the pattern....put a huge needle in my sewing machine and sewed over the lines ...no thread...used this and pounced the design on with chalk..with this particular design it worked....
Just a little extra work with marking the quilt but well worth it and then I actually save time in the quilting because quilting from the front is so much faster...I don't follow the order in the pattern...I quilted the triangles first,go to centre, then add the web circles...
Thanks for all your help...your advice got the ideas going and is is working out. I have two rows quilted...and it has to be done by next a Thurs...so I am good...
