quiltlover03
Hi, I have a 2004 Freedom, non SR. Tonight she started to act funny. The needle up and down engages on its own when I turn the power oen and its kind of a hacking sound. I cleaned everything, checked all the plugs, made sure all connections are tight, but it is still doing it. Could it be a bad switch in the handles, on the needle positioner button, the power cord? can anyone help with any suggestions? Pleeeeeze? Thanks If John Mitchell is reading, I'd love his input. Thanks Monika
John Mitchell
Hi Monika; Mark and Amy are the real experts. I am assuming you have the Needle Positioner and Single Stitch options. If so I am wondering if the magnets are passing the mag sensors and not stopping the machine when it should. Does it seem to stutter, jerk or operate smoothly? Does the needle move with normal speed? It is kind of late so you best bet might be to call Amy in the morning. We had a Non SR Freedom for several years and it was very trouble free. The lady that bought it is still using it with no problems. I do not have a quick fix on the top of my head right now. John
quiltlover03
Thank You John, yes it stutters and jerks. When I quilt, before I realized something was wrong, the bobbin thread all bunched up. I'll call Amy in te morning. Thank ou for your reply. I sure hope it's nothing serious. DawnCavanaugh
Monika, Check the motor brushes (look in the manual for instructions--if you don't have them, let me know and I'll send you an email attachment.) One or both may be worn down, and that can definitely cause the sporadic behavior you're experiencing.
