Ferret
I tried reworking my fabric requirements for lengthwise borders and people complained at the "massive waste of fabric". I stopped doing it. I was also taught that a scant 1/4" has a very precise meaning. it is the little bit less than a full 1/4" you need to sew to get the finish piece to look like a perfect 1/4". whenever you press a seam you loose a small amount of fabric in the turn of the cloth. That is how much less than a full 1/4" you need. Generally about 2 threads. Sewing blocks that end up with finished 1" strips is a good ay to fine tune the scant 1/4" I also don't measure my borders, unless the body of the top is likely to be stretchy. Like when blocks are set on point. Ferret
