CL Baptis fan blade

Sharyn,

Doing the Baptist fan is easier than reading the instructions.

Below is a little cartoon video that shows the arcs and directions used.

The videos shows you the way to do it.

If you want an odd number of arcs - 3, 5, 7. Start going up from the baseline.. They can be 1 inch to 1.5" apart.

If you want and even number of arcs - 4, 6, 8, 10, start going down from the side line.

Our Double BF has arcs 1" apart. This seems to be a good measurement to start with.

Put a piece of painters tape on the blade and mark the holes

you want to use. You can also use loose leaf reinforcements. They are 1/4" apart. You can put the blade directly on the baseplate. Keep the overhang to the miniumum by selecting the 1/4" hole closest to the tip that will work.

For larger fans such as 10 inch, put the blade on the Stepping disk and place the stepping disk post at about 8: o'clock.

You want to end up on the baseline, to advance to the next

set of fans.

To advance, place the stylus in the center post and then drag the whole CL until the needle is over end of the last arc on the

baseline. Then start making your arcs again. When you reach

the last line stitched, do a lock stitch and then trail the thread

up to the next fan start. I is good to start in a couple of stitches from the line, go back and then go on to finish the arc. This is your lock stitch.

Once you try this on a practice piece it should be clear.

I hope this helps.
