uncquilter
I'm curious. What is the heaviest weight thread you have run through the needle on your longarm? I'd like to do some experimenting, but thought I will ask around first. Thanks Carol
DawnCavanaugh
Carol, I have used Sulky's 12-weight thread (similar to perle cotton) to simulate Sashiko quilting. I had to use a 4.5 needle (probably a 5.0 would have been even better for my circumstances). I also used a thin thread in the bobbin and a batting with some loft. The thicker thread will really pull on the needle, so movement speed is a big factor in addition to needle size in preventing lots of pokeys on the back of the quilt. You may need to play with the thread path as well, depending on how the thread is wrapped on the cone. (For the Sulky, for example, it was 'stack wound' so I put it on a horizontal spool holder.) Have fun!
uncquilter
Dawn, Thanks for the information. I have lots of 12wt. sulky that I use for hand stitching. I thought it would be fun to try it on the machine. Thanks again. Carol
