"Heirloom Quilting"?

Recommended Posts

Could anybody please post pictures of what "heirloom quilting" looks like? Somewhere I saw it described as quilting specific to the quilt design, instead of all-over quilting. But a lot of all-over quilting I've seen certainly looks like heirloom quality to me..... What do you all say about this? I'm so new to all these ideas and I just want to get it figured out for future pricing etc. Thanks!

Heirloom quilting is something that results in a quilt you would consider a family heirloom. Most likely something that has trapunto, feathers, intricate detail. A bit more of a step up from full custom. This would usually be a wholecloth or a meticulously pieced quilt that has room for extra flourish.

Patty,

Well, there are many many talented quilters out there who do beautiful stuff. I don't want to name names because I would forget someone and feel bad about it. Off the top of my head, our very own APQS staff such as Myrna Ficken, Sherry Rogers-Harrison, (name removed), Darlene Epp, Karen McTavish, Claudia Clark Meyers, Marilyn Badger, Dawn Cavanaugh, and all you other APQS staffers...etc...they do gorgeous work.

Linda Steller's wholecloth that she made in memory of her mom -- that is a beautiful heirloom piece.

Personally, I consider anything that Kimmy Brunner does is pretty much heirloom quilting. She's awesome. I start to drool when I look at Kimmy's stuff. I require a hand towel or bib under my mouth to help mop up my chin area while I am looking at her quilting. Here are just a few fine examples of her work.

Click on this link to view the APQS gallery. There are some nice examples of heirloom style quilting in here. I think it mentions the artist's name in the photo area of the page: http://www.apqs.com/photos.htm

Wow, Linda, Shana is right, that is stunning! How beautiful a work to do in memory of your mom. I know she is so proud of you!

I just kept gasping at some of Kimmy Brunner's quilts. My land, could I ever do that?

I'll have to enjoy the APQS photos later, though it's almost impossible to tear myself away, LOL! I really hope I will be able to learn how to do that eventually. Wow.
