I can't get my bobbin tension tight enough

Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain why a pre-wound bobbin worked great, but then I ran out of that. I wound the exact same color of thread on a metal bobbin, but now I can't get the bobbin tension tight enough. I'm using bottom line in the bobbin and Rainbows in the top. Worked beautifully for about 30", then when I put in the new bobbin all heck broke loose. I'm frogging, but ready to go and walk the dogs. Maybe the little gremlins will fix everything while we're gone.

Hi Beth!

The weight of the metal bobbin requires a tighter tension.

Are you using the drop test or the Towa tension gauge like we talked about in class?

Let me know how it goes after you tighten things up.;)

Hi Linda,

I'm using the tension gauge, and I think things are working better now. I think that I thought I was seeing pokies on top, so tried to tighten the bobbin, and loosen the top tension. After stitching for too long, I looked at the back. It wasn't pretty. Frogged that out, and all seems to be well now. Thanks for your help, and the info I found on this forum.
