Bekah
I have client that brought me 3 of her grandmother's quilts and the backing, well I just loaded the first one and the backing is outdoor deco fabric and I have major problems on the back. Not true pokies but material pokies if that makes sense. My question is, do I go up a size or down a size to try to get rid of these?
ffq-lar
Traditionally, you match the needle size to the thread size and not the fabric type. But with extra-heavy fabric I don't know which would be more helpful. A larger needle might just make a larger hole and bring more fabric pokies through. And a smaller needle will be more prone to thread breakage through the tough backer. Let us know which one works for you because I don't have a clue. Is there a way you can advise her that the quilts will be more friendly and be used more if there is regular fabric on the back? No way a quilt with outdoor dec fabric will be snuggly.
