Barb OMelia
Here's hoping someone can help me with suggestions on dealing with a folded loose border. The quilt, which is 108x108, wonderfully pieced and flat has four borders, the innermost is an inch wide, folded flange opening toward the outside of the quilt. I have only had one other similar quilt and had a problem with flange not wanting to lay flat after quilting. This will be a custom job and not an all over. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. JoAnnHoffman
The quilting around it will make it ripple more. You know this from experience. The owner might have to steam it in place or block the quilt when you are done. I would tell her of the problem you forsee and maybe she will suggest you stitch something on it. Let her make the decision for you. It's less stressful.
Guest LA
Hi Barb, These are really popular edge treatments & I seem to get alot of them. What I found that works well is to pin the flange over while quilting on one side, & the trick is not to quilt up really close on either side up into the seam allowances. If you do, then it wants to stick straight up! The charm of these edges are that that are loose, but if your customer wants it to lay down flat, then I would suggest that she hand baste/tack them down. Have fun with it!
