  1. Something else to think about is the configuration of the handles.  The upright handles on the Lenni won't change position if you want to hold your hands/shoulders in a different position.  The curved handles of the Millie will adjust up and down easily and they give a nice few inches of space on the quilt field when you need to finish the design on the farther points.  I have a Lucey that I am getting used to.  I like the curved handles.  I'm just 5'0".    When you check out the APQS see what the options are for the handles that you are interested in.

The new Lennis have the adjustable handles. I was shocked to see it but they do. I have a Freedom and a Lenni, and the only thing my Freedom has that I miss on the Lenni is the automatic fabric advance and quilt glide.

The channel lock issue is easily dealt with using binder clips.

  2. Wow!

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of creepy quilters.

Seems like an oxymoron...I always think quilters are good people.

I guess it takes all kinds.

And in the end, everyone gets their just desserts.

When you're going thru something like this, I imagine knowing this doesn't really help much.

It really stinks that honest folks get taken advantage of by nasty people.

I'm very sorry this happened to both Wendy & Marci.

  3. From what I understand. Only use the clear sewing machine oil with our APQS machine. When it begins to turn yellow,, discard it. It has turned rancid.

The oil that I buy at the Bernina dealer is yellow when I buy it!!

I threw it out and only use the clear oil now in all my machines.

I'm hoping it makes a difference in how long I can between service visits.

  4. Hi everybody,

I've been meaning to share this tip from a class I took a few weeks ago.

    I keep forgetting.

A mind is a terrible thing to lose.

Sharon Shamber told us we shouldn't ever use the yellow oil that comes with some of our sewing machines.

I know my Bernina came with it.

She said the yellow color is caused by paraffin.

They add this to gum things up so the machine needs to be serviced more often.

    Yikes.

You can use the nice clear oil from APQS or mineral oil, which I think is the same thing.

But stay away from that yellow stuff.

She also recommends dipping your thread in mineral oil to lubricate it.

She said it strengthens & extends the life of the thread and cuts down on lint.

It also keeps the machine oiled.

I tried it on a practice piece and it didn't seep from the thread to the quilt.

I'm trying to decide if I think it's worth it.

If any of you practice this, I'd love your thoughts.

    Just sharing.

    Happy Spring from snowy Syracuse!

  5. holy craftiness, batman, that is one humming studio!!!:D:P:D:P

how do you ever keep track of everything you have????:o:o:o:o:o

no matter how organized i became i know my brain wouldn't remember all that - it just isn't big enough! i'd need a map!!!

    ;););)

    you are one lucky oma!!!

  6. both are very nice machines, no doubt about that. the apqs machine felt lighter to drive ~ that is not based on any fact - just how it felt to me.

i chose apqs for the following reasons:

    better warranty

made in the usa - very important to DH

they were VERY MUCH more timely in responding to my inquiries about thier machines which made me feel more comfortable with them in case i should have any problems

that's all i can say about the matter - but i am happy with my choice so far!

  7. i have a table with a lift and the only time i move the lift is when i am giving the bobbin area a cleaning - and really, i could just gently lean it back and clean it out if i didn't have the lift feature. sometimes i wind up lying it back anyway cause its a better angle for me to see. changing the bobbin can be done by feel. the lift is a nice thing to have, and i love my table. but i don't think it's all that.

  8. i have a koala cabinet. sounds like the horn that all the others are talking about. spot for a serger on the right - lots of drawers and they work just fine for me - fold up table out the front which is great for quilting larger items (of course i will not be using that much since i have my lola:)).....i got mine in january many years ago when i lived in michigan. it was a floor sample with a couple of small cosmetic dings so they gave me mucho dinero off the price. i LOVE it. it has the lift mechanism but i hardly ever use it unless i am giving my bernina a big cleaning, i can change the bobbin just by feel - good luck with your decision!
