How to tell if borders are wavy before loading

Recommended Posts

I first fold the upper and lower edges to the middle of the quilt top. All three should be same width. I also check the side width the same way. You can get out a tape measure and check, but folding gives a faster answer.

I always pin the quilt to my design board (just across the top). Have found that if I have to smooth it with my hands to get it to lay flat on the design board there will be something going on and I better investigate. If the quilt just naturally hangs nicely, then any problems that might arise will be very minimal.

Hi Maxine,

I check for border fullness by pinning the top on my design wall, placing the pins all along the seam between the inside of the top and the border. Make sure the top is pinned flat (tight) and smooth the border with your hand. If the border has any ruffling, it can be BFS&Sed before loading.

It is better to pin to something flat, but I don't do much "floor work" if I can possibly avoid it!:D

(Will you be at Seaside in July?)
