chickenscratch
From what I can see of the quilt, I would echo outline the designs and fill the rest with stippling or McTavishing. Teresa www.chickenscratchquilting.com
ramona-quilter
scq, Most of todays computers have a program called Paint. It comes with Windows and you an find it by navigating to Start - Programs - Accessories - Paint. Inside Paint, use your mouse to left-click File - Open - and locate your photo where it is stored on your computer. Once the photo displays inside Paint, click Image - Attributes to see the current size of your photo. 600 x 480 (or thereabouts) is a good size to post. But before you resize it, do a Save As to save the photo with a different name, like Inserra-Mariner-640x480.jpg. This way you don't overwrite your original photo. As soon as you do the 'save as', the name at the top of the Paint window changes so you'll know what image you are working on. Now to make this new one smaller. Still in Paint, click Image - Stretch/Skew. The Stretch/Skew window opens. Notice the Stretch pane shows 100% for horizontal and vertical. Change those 100's to 25's. Click Ok. Click Image - Attributes to see the new size of your photo. Adjust, if necessary. Click File - Save. Post the resized photo as you did earlier. Here is your photo at 643x450. The 2304x1930 is way too big to see without scrolling. You'll get more responses if folks can see the photo.
ramona-quilter
scq, You didn't say how big the quilt is. Using the wood floor as a measure, I'm guessing that this is a wall hanging . If it were mine, I would certainly outline all the applique. Maybe even echo a bit around the flowers to fill it a bit...but not too much or you'll lose that coutry feel. I think that I would put Terry twists in the HST (half-square triangles). Then I would have some fun with those blocks. Maybe outlines of a sun, a birdhouse, sunflower, a group of leaves, something outdoorsy. Just have fun with it. It is a lovely quilt. I can see it hanging inside the front door to great your guests or over a fireplace. Did you design it yourself or is it a pattern? Have fun and be sure to post a picture of the finished quilt. scq
Linda-thank you for all (photo resize and quilting) suggestions! It is going to hang just inside my front door and it is sort of from a pattern that I messed around with to make it a bit more to my liking.....I just bought my longarm in Feb (Millenium) and instead of practicing on muslin I am practicing on quilts for me! Again, thanks Annette
